NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings Expert Survey for Saturday, October 17
Who is your favorite skater to spend up for in cash games?
Moneyball16: Auston Matthews
TastefulTides: Auston Matthews
Hunter4ever89: Jack Eichel
How do you plan to beat the field of opponents in the tournaments you will be playing? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
Moneyball16: After the best hockey player in the world starts his season with 18 points in 7 games, it probably seems foolish to come in underweight on him, but that is what I am recommending with Connor McDavid. His shot rate is way down, his attempted shot rate is down, and his on-ice expected goal rate at 5v5 is even slightly down from last season. With him on the ice at 5v5, the team is scoring over twice the goals compared to expected goals, which suggests regression. This is a tough matchup in Utah against a team that has very good underlying metrics this season.
TastefulTides: I want to start off by being well overweight on Vegas. They will have the home ice and rest advantages over Pittsburgh. They have great options at both the high and low ends of the salary spectrum. Spreading out, I think that Nashville is in a good spot on home ice against Jordan Binnington.
Hunter4ever89: I have a lot of interest in the early games, and I will have some exposure to Vegas late. As we get relevant news from warmups in our RotoGrinders Discord channel, I can pivot as needed to create some unique lineups. For example, if the early stacks underwhelm, I plan to swap from Vegas to lower-owned combinations from Edmonton or Utah. I also plan to save some salary and roster Dan Vladar in tournaments. Rostering goalies from bad teams certainly comes with risk, but he should have the opportunity to make plenty of saves.
Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?

About the Author
Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
