What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
Moneyball16: Large-field tournaments – I think tonight is a good night to zag to some of the less desired goalies. Goalie is extremely volatile and hard to predict. Embrace weirdness. Ilya Sorokin and Igor Shesterkin are the best goalies on the slate, but they don’t have great prices or matchups, and I like fading the hot starts from Samuel Montembeault and Lukas Dostal. It’s not gonna feel good to play one of these other guys, but it won’t feel good for your opponents either, and you’ll likely get a good ownership discount from a position that is similar to picking numbers on a roulette wheel.
boggslite: I prefer single-entry contests tonight, where ownership is expected to be spread out and having conviction on your lineup can pay off in these types of tournaments. It’s a tricky slate, where the better players find themselves in difficult matchups and teams that don’t consistently produce draw the easy matchups. I prefer playing it safe at goalie with a guy like Ilya Sorokin and targeting the power-play potential and matchups for the Kings and Kraken.
Joda: Large-field tournaments are my preferred format for this slate. Outside of the Trocheck / Panarin / Lafreniere line, all line stacks are relatively affordable, and it is easy to build balanced rosters. The Islanders’ and Senators’ top 6 is in play, and they are a great source of salary relief. I’ll take shots on those, mixing-and-matching as well as rotating in a top defenseman like Noah Dobson or Jake Sanderson for skaters who are not playing on the top power-play unit. Pairing Kirill Kaprizov with Joel Eriksson Ek and Brock Faber instead of Marco Rossi and Mats Zuccarello offers a more unique build.
Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
