What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
Moneyball16: Large-field GPPs – The smaller the slate, the more I like stacking a goalie with a line. If any team has a GPP-winning line score multiple goals, the team they are on is likely to win, and with only 3 wins available on the slate, that gives the goalie a good shot to put up the best goalie score as well. Also, with the big prize pools and the lack of other sports, I would expect the chalk to be chalkier on this opening slate, so I will be going more contrarian than normal.
boggslite: Large-field tournaments – I plan to spread my exposure around, as there is more uncertainty in the early part of the year. The pricing is softer than we are used to seeing, which will have me more focused on the top two lines from teams rather than looking for depth scoring. MacKinnon and Panarin are my two favorite forwards to build around and will likely be my highest-owned skaters.
Joda: Large-field GPPs – Florida’s top 6 is viable in all formats, and nailing the Panthers is the key to the slate in my opinion. There is a strong value in Anton Lundell, who likely sees the most ownership out of all Florida skaters, and there’s a path where overly stacking Florida makes sense, particularly on this tiny slate. If fading Florida, one under-the-radar guy I like is Mackie Samoskevich. While he is not on the top power-play (at least to start), he saw some looks there at the end of last season and during the preseason depending on who was in the lineup. He is the same price as Lundell and makes for a worthwhile one-for-one pivot.
Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?

About the Author

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
