Tom Hoge +2200 (DraftKings)
Last year, Tom Hoge chased down Jordan Spieth at this very event and gave us one of our article’s wins. Of course, time changes everything, as last year we hit Hoge as a 66/1 longshot. This year, he comes with a much steeper price.
Hoge seems to bring out his best stuff during this stretch of the golf season and has been in good form as of late. We don’t need to talk about course history as a defending champion, but what we can mention is his first place rank in both SG: Approach and Opportunities Gained in this week’s field. Hoge is going to present himself plenty of opportunities — especially on the very small greens at Pebble Beach.
He is going to be our top spend this week and a potential one-and-done candidate. We open with him for 1.5 units on DraftKings.
Ben Griffin +6600 (PointsBet)
Griffin is going to be a very popular golf DFS play this week and likely a popular betting option. He has nine straight cuts made and is in great form heading into an event with a far weaker field. It is time to buy.
Griffin ranks top 20 in several of our most important categories this week: SG: Approach, SG: Par 5, Opportunities Gained, Proximity 100-125, and Par 4: 350-400. For this price, we need to jump on before the betting market shortens these odds.
We will wager a 1/2 unit on Griffin and also consider him for one-and-done, depending on his popularity. We also will throw two units on his top 20 wager at +280 on Caesars Sportsbook.
Matt NeSmith +8500 (FanDuel)
Pebble Beach presents an opportunity for Matt NeSmith to shine. A short course that requires precision iron play? NeSmith checks those boxes.
Unfortunately, NeSmith has not been checking other boxes lately. He has missed a few cuts in a row playing an all-around sloppy game of golf. That said, where he has historically been excellent is what we need at Pebble Beach. Further, keeping our card cheap is a priority in this final multi-course rotation event. NeSmith provides some upside for a very nice price in a very weak field.
He flashed his ability to get immensely hot last year at the Valspar. He makes for an intriguing round leader bet as well. We will throw 0.375 units on NeSmith on FanDuel.
Brendon Todd +8000 (BetMGM)
The Toddfather makes the column again. Short course? Accuracy? Precision? Yes, please.
Todd finished 16th at this event last year and we really shouldn’t be shocked. The fact that driving distance does not matter at this event is very helpful to Todd. His accuracy off the tee, excellent wedge play, and hot putter is just what we need as a long odds value.
At this price, Todd makes for an intriguing top finisher play as well. We will stick with the outright at 80/1 on BetMGM for 0.375 units.
