Questions & Answers: Thursday, September 17th

Hello Grinders. Cheese had some power issues last night so I’ll be covering for him (stay safe Dave!). We have a shortened six game main slate that’s really interesting with one ace up top, one Coors Field game, and the hottest offense on the planet in the Yankees. Let’s dive in!

Question 1 – Is There Recency Bias?

Before even touching on anyone on this slate, I do think it’s worth taking a step back and asking ourselves if there’s a chance recency bias is going to impact our behaviors. If you were part of the 50% who rostered Jacob deGrom last night, you obviously felt the burn of him leaving after just two innings due to an injury. And the previous night, Jack Flaherty was heavily owned as well and pooped the bed, finishing with negative fantasy points over three innings as the Brewers offense just exploded like diarrhea.

Now fast forward to today. We have Shane Bieber in an obvious smash spot on paper, but I’ll admit, a part of me just has this irrational fear that something is going to happen and I’m going to regret going heavy on another chalk pitcher in a great spot. Or speaking of recency bias, we have the Yankees who are on this sudden roll where they can’t stop scoring runs. With just six games and 12 offenses to choose from today, it seems almost like a no-brainer to just go heavy on them. Yes, we have Coors Field, but take a look at the scores from the last five games in Colorado:
