Rise & Grind: Friday, May 29th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
Adrian Peterson – If you have a few minutes, Adrian Peterson has a question for you. Yesterday, on his Twitter, Peterson posed the question, “is a contract two-sided or one?” I was just about to answer him, but then he just started ranting. I figured it would be best to let AP sleep it off and then maybe we could discuss this today. Okay AP, I know it was a while ago, but think back to last year when you beat a defenseless child with a stick. What did your contract say? It said you were guaranteed $11.75 million. Even though you only played one game, you still received the entire amount. What does your contract say about this year? It says that you are guaranteed $12.75 million. The Vikings would like for you to come to work so they can pay you the amount they agreed, but so far you refuse. Maybe you are right, contracts are kind of one-sided. It does seem really unfair that the Vikings are stuck paying a 30-year-old RB $24.5 million while he complains about how unfair it is.
Ron Artest – Time for a quick trivia question. What name does the NBA player formerly known as Ron Artest go by these days? If you answered Metta World Peace, you would have been correct up until last August. Artest, AKA World Peace, decided to move to China last August and changed his name to Panda’s friend. My first thought when reading that news was that someone should talk some sense into Artest before he goes into Panda rage mode. Apparently, we are already too late. The Panda’s Friend picked up five fouls in under one minute and then got in a scuffle with another player. The article doesn’t say what caused the outburst though. Maybe someone said something about his mother, or his friend panda.
DraftKings Belmont Stakes Sponsorship – For the most part, the DFS industry is a two horse race. FanDuel and DraftKings have been in an all out advertising blitz for the past two years. Along the way, the sites have picked up exclusive deals with sporting leagues, teams, and even a boxer. DraftKings has now added horse racing to that list. DraftKings signed a title sponsorship deal with Belmont Stakes. The deal includes DK logos on the starting gates, advertising exclusivity, and a chance for one lucky DFS player to win an experience package. At some point between now and the race, DraftKings will award one player access to the winner’s circle for the sold out race. Stay tuned for more details as they are announced.
On The Menu
Happy Strasburg Day – Yesterday was National Burger Day. Today is National Stars-Burg(er) day. The schedule of events for Strasburger day are not completely set in stone. Things are subject to change, but so far they include an airing of grievances, a Twitter discussion on XFIP and BABIP, a gathering to watch the first four innings of Strasburg getting shelled, and then another airing of grievances. Make sure to mark your calendar and even bring a friend if you wish. Strasburg day is much more fun with friends. If you can’t attend today, there will be another Strasburg day roughly five days from now.
MLB today – In observance of Strasburg day, MLB has scheduled 15 games and 14 of those start at 7:05 EST or later. With a super-sized slate today, you can expect a parade of content here at RotoGrinders. All of the normally scheduled content will run today, including the Grind Down, Six-Pack, Starting Pitcher and Hitter Breakdowns, GPP Plays, and much, much more. Once you finish browsing all of the written content, be sure to check back in for GrindersLive at 3:30 EST. DraftCheat and boggslite kick things off at 3:30 EST, followed by Gabey, Pepsi7 and Zach Miner, and then Dean and Al take over at 5:30 – EMac will bring you home from 6:30 to 7:00.
DFS NASCAR – Today is Friday, so it is time to start thinking about your NASCAR picks for this weekend’s race at Dover. Stevietpfl took his first crack at cash game and GPP picks. Tobinator44 also has his NASCAR spreadsheet and an interesting discussion going on in the forums.
Condit vs. Alves – Make sure to set aside some time this weekend to build a few UFC teams as well. bbbomb has an excellent breakdown of all the fights in his UFC Beat Down. Give it a read and go win some UFC money!
With that Grinders, I’m out of here for the weekend. Good luck in your contests though. Go get that cash!
