Rise & Grind: Thursday, April 30th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through the yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
NFL Draft – Are you ready for some football? Well tough, preseason NFL doesn’t start for another three months. How about watching your team select a player who won’t make an impact for 2-3 years? Now that we can arrange. The NFL draft is tonight. There have been mock drafts galore and even mock drafts mocking mock drafts. If all of this excites you feel free to do your own mock draft and win a free ticket on FanDuel. If you want to meet up with some other DFSers and happen to be in Houston Texas, check out this NFL Draft watch party hosted by SportsTradex.
Updated DraftKings App – If you have an Apple device and you don’t already have the DraftKings app, you are doing DFS wrong. Quite simply, the DraftKings app was already pretty amazing. That doesn’t mean DK is done improving it though. The newest update released this week has a sleek new night mode. It also includes live scoring updates, create a contest option and much, much more. Go get it if you haven’t already.
Winner(draftkings-promo-code App – If you have an Apple device and you don’t already have the DraftKings app, you are doing DFS wrong) Winner(draftkings-promo-code App* – If you have an Apple device and you don’t already have the DraftKings app, you are doing DFS wrong)* – There were lots of big winners last night, but one stands out above the rest. Bcalicore claimed 1-4 in the FD Squeeze, 1-4 in the Grand Slam, 1-2 in the Sac Fly, 1-2 in the Rally, 1st in the Line Drive and both the $25 and $200 PFBC qualifier. I didn’t add everything up, but he won approximately $245,253,726,678. Besides bcalicore a few other Grinders found their names near the top of the leaderboards. afkshower won the Super Monster, mrhaha placed well in the Super Monster and Slugger, and chitown_frenze claimed a WFBC seat. Over on DraftKings, gunz4hire claimed a FBWC seat, and took down the Payoff Pitch while underjones took down the Perfect Game and Yukerboy took down the early Moonshot. For the rest of yesterday’s links check the forums.
MLB Yesterday – The Orioles defeated the White Sox 8-2 in a game played without fans at Camden Yards. This begs the question, is it the fans who have been holding back the Orioles this whole time? If I’m an Orioles fan, I would stay away from the next few homes games just to see. In other news, the Royals’ hitters continue to get beaned by opposing pitchers. Alcides Escobar was hit in the face by a Danny Salazar pitch yesterday. Most of the time this happens, the Royals clear the benches, but they didn’t last night. My guess is everyone realizes that it was Danny Salazar pitching. Even Danny Salzar doesn’t know where the next pitch is going when he is on the mound. Last but not least, Ryan “Vogeldong” lived up to his nickname allowing four dongs in the first three innings to the Dodgers.
Dong Report – Speaking of dongs, there were a total of 35 dongs hit yesterday. The longest dong belonged to Nelson Cruz at 447 feet while the shortest belonged to Ichiro Suzuki at 360 feet. Six different pitchers allowed two dongs but Ryan Vogelsong blew them away allowing four dongs. On the opposite end of the spectrum, two hitters had a double dong, they were Ryan Braun and Miguel Cabrera (both in the early slate).
On The Menu
NBA Playoffs – The Bucks look to force game seven tonight against Chicago, while the Clippers look to do the same against the Spurs. If you are still playing NBA DFS, we have you covered here at RotoGrinders with the NBA Grind Down later today. You can also join our NBA Strategy Discussion in the forums.
NHL Playoffs -The Flames/Ducks and Rangers/Capitals square off tonight in the opening game of their second-round series. In anticipation of this series the Rangers have stopped using capital letters on Twitter (since they are facing the Capitals). I DoNt WaNt To TaKe SiDeS HeRe So I’m UsInG HaLf CaPiTaLs In ThIs SeNtEnCe. Okay, wow that was annoying. I’m pretty sure I deleted people off social media in junior high for the same thing. Anyways, feel free join the NHL strategy discussion in the forums and build a few NHL DFS teams to sweat while watching the action tonight.
MLB Tonight – Happy Strasburg day everyone(593449571914756096 (since they are facing the Capitals))! Today is the day us Strasburg-ites celebrate every five days. If you would like to join the festivities create a Twitter account and join the fun as Stras gets BABIP’d to death and we act like this surprises us each time. There are also a few other options on the bump tonight including Jacob deGrom, Chris Sale, and a guy who lives in a van. I would break down the pitcher options for you but that’s not what we do here at the Rise and Grind. You will have to wait for the MLB Grind Down if you want some winning advice. Instead let’s take a quick stroll down #NarrativeStreet. Be sure to check the lineups, but if he’s in tonight, fire up Jesus Sucre for a #BirthdayGame. Also, just for fun, fire up Kelly Johnson in a #MilestoneWatch game. Johnson is five hits away from 1,000. Look for a 5-5 performance tonight against Mike Leake.
Bottom Line – With the NFL draft tonight don’t forget to lock in your entry to the FanDuel contest mentioned above. As the RotoGrinders resident Eagles fan I’m anxiously awaiting the tilt that will ensue tonight when Chip Kelly trades away our entire team for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota. It’s going to be a great night! Good luck out there and hit me up on twitter @SethayatesDFS if you want to tilt over our teams’ selections tonight.
