2023 Scottish Open Weather Forecast and Projections
We’re teeing off for the Scottish Open this week, and as expected in a place known for fierce weather, the rain and wind will have some bite to it.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the time frame with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Scottish Open Weather Report & Forecast
Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, July 13th
About as good as you could ask for on day 1, given the location. Winds will consistently be in the 10-15mph range through the day, with a chance for a few showers but nothing particularly widespread.
Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, July 14th
Rain chances begin picking up Friday. Winds look to be relatively light, 5-10mph for most of the day, but I’ll note that winds can occasionally gust a bit as rain showers move through.
Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, July 15th
Rain should be less of a focus over the weekend, with wind becoming the main story. On Saturday, winds will be breezy, with 15-20mph sustained with stronger gusts.
Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, July 16th
This is when things could get really interesting. Winds Sunday should start at about the level we see Saturday (15-20mph) and increase through the afternoon. Wind gusts will likely exceed 30mph, and I think that might be a conservative estimate.
Scottish Open Weather Forecast
As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In the case of the Scottish Open, I think the first few days are manageable (though likely quite wet Friday) and difficult to find an edge with. By the weekend, the wind starts picking up and becomes the main issue, particularly late on Sunday. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
