The Baseball Diaries April 9

Hello everyone and welcome to my Baseball Diaries. This article is going to recap the previous night’s performance of my team as well as one of my competitors. The goal is to give a bit of insight as to why the players were selected and maybe some roster configuration tactics. No matter how good of a fantasy player someone thinks they are, no one can predict the future. All we can do is use our best judgment and sound strategy to be successful. So in lieu of handing out player picks, I present to you my Baseball Diaries.

Jose Abreu Shanks won the DFBC Q last night with this team. Abreu was a popular guy last night with an ownership of 19%. Everyone wanted a piece of him in Coors Field and he delivered with 2 HR’s.

Marcus Semien Coors Field strikes again as Semien put up a great game for a low salary. He was only about 7% owned and I was surprised a couple of these White Sox guys weren’t rostered more, but they have been very anemic thus far.

Avisail Garcia And here is the trilogy of Chicago bats Shanks used to take this tourney down. Garcia at 4.5% owned and 2 HR’s was the player of the night. Listen, here is GPP strategy 101- You have to take a stand somewhere. Especially if you’re dealing with only a limited number of entries to work with. In a game like Coors Field or Rangers Ballpark etc., you either need to pound that game with the masses and hope you have enough to separate from the rest of the field with your handful of other players; or you need to fade these games and hope they flame out and you eliminate a large chunk of the field with it. In this case fading the Rockies was a great move. They were highly owned and produced minimum. The White Sox were not as highly owned as I thought they may be and they delivered. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The point is, though, don’t teeter with a “little bit” of Rockies, Rangers or whomever. In large fields you have to be all in or all out.

Jose Bautista I threw him on here because outside of some White Sox guys he was my best player. Considering he is Jose freaking Bautista, that is not saying much for my night. I couldn’t hit on any sleepers, only chalk. That doesn’t win GPP’s.

Daniel Murphy I put this Mets duo on my team because I really thought they could smack Harang around. It just didn’t pan out. With all the other big names on the board on Tuesday night I was unpleasantly surprised to see them at 17%+ owned. I thought they would red line and be under 10%.

David Wright Wright flamed out and didn’t even reach base in 5 AB’s. This is one of the downsides to baseball. The fact that a high priced stud can net you a negative point total no matter how good he is or how juicy the matchup looks.

Jason Heyward Heyward was another guy I chose that took the 0 for 5 night. Not cool man. Wright and Heyward totaled a whopping -2.5 points for my team. It was the downfall of my chance to cash in this large field. Even more surprising was Colon shutting down the Braves for 7 innings. This comes slightly more than a week after killing it at the Playboy Mansion. So I was really taken aback by these developments. I guess his offseason routine of hot dogs and beer pong got him ready for this game.
