Cincinnati Bengals @ Indianapolis Colts (-3) 46.5
What to watch for:
Andrew Luck is back! Yet a lot of question marks still surround the Colts quarterback. Luck’s accuracy has looked good throughout the preseason, but there are still concerns regarding his arm strength. On August 26, Indianapolis beat reporter, Stephen Holder sent the following tweet: “I have consistently said throughout camp that I don’t believe Luck’s ‘fastball’ is where it needs to be. This is something he’s acknowledged and believes will come with time.” I’ll seldom put much weight into a beat’s scouting report, but Luck acknowledging he’s lacking a little zip to start the season is a bit concerning.
For any questions that surround Luck, there are even more surrounding the Colts running back situation. Marlon Mack figures to be the starter when healthy, but he’s battling through a hamstring injury and it’s “no slam dunk” he’s ready for the opener. That would leave some combination of Christine Michael, Jordan Wilkins, and Nyheim Hines to handle the rushing work for the Colts. Unless we get some clarity surrounding the running back situation leading up to Week 1 this is likely a spot to avoid despite a favorable matchup against a Bengals defense that ranked 24th in rush DVOA last season.
