This week’s tournament in San Antonio is the final opportunity for those who have not qualified for The Masters to punch their ticket. Corey Conners +2500 (FanDuel)
I covered my disappointment with myself for not betting on Corey Conners last year at this event in our betting preview. An event tailored to ball-striking is the perfect place for Mr. Conners. Corey hasn’t disappointed, never missing a cut at this event and compiling two victories.
Conners ranks second in the model I built for this week because of his profile as one of the best iron players in the game. He comes into this week off the back of two T20 finishes. He is in better form and will play at a very comfortable course.
I won’t miss another victory here and will use Conners as my one-and-done selection.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout +5500 (PointsBet)
Christiaan Bezuidenhout needs a victory at the Valero Texas Open to punch his ticket to Augusta National. C-Bez is in excellent form with a T10 finish in his last start at the Valspar. He should be extremely motivated to get the job done in San Antonio.
Bezuidenhout made his first start at the Valero Texas Open last season and secured a T30 finish. He has four T20 finishes this season, including a second-place finish at The American Express for which he collected a winner’s paycheck (Nick Dunlap victory). He ranks sixth in approach and putting and eleventh in overall strokes gained over his last 24 rounds.

Adam Scott +6000 (ESPNBet)
Adam Scott has not played many events in 2024 — seemingly poised to stay fit for the majors. His last start at The Players Championship resulted in a made cut but not much noise on the weekend. Scott, though, remains one of the better ball strikers on tour.
You won’t find a smoother swing than that of Adam Scott. The grizzled veteran continues to compete on the PGA Tour and consistently flirts with victories each year. Scott had a victory at the Valero in 2010 but more recently has T10 finishes at Phoenix and the Butterfield Bermuda fall swing event. At a 60-1 price tag, we could do worse than a ball striker of Scott’s caliber.
Hopefully, he is not simply tuning up for Augusta National. Regardless, we add him to our card at a minimal cost.
Charley Hoffman +15000 (BetMGM)
Finally, I discussed my interest in Charley Hoffman as a long shot in my preview article for this week’s event. Hoffman has dominated the Valero Texas Open over the years with several top-five finishes and his first career victory years ago.
While Hoffman is a bit longer in the tooth and not in the best form, his familiarity with this course is the only reason I am considering this outright bet at such an elevated price. Will he win this event? In all likelihood, he won’t. However, he showed us at the Waste Management Phoenix Open that he had something left in the tank. What better place to demonstrate this than his favorite course? We add him at a nominal cost.
