World Cup DFS Picks & Strategy: Saturday, July 11th
With France and Spain already into the Semifinals, the other half of the final four will be determined on Saturday. It’s the final day of the World Cup that has more than one match on the schedule, and it should be a great pair of contests. The action begins at 5:00 p.m. ET, and DraftKings has a solid slate of fantasy contests available in both Showdown formats, which focus on a single game, and classic formats, where you can select from each of the four teams in the player pool.
In the first match of Saturday afternoon, England takes on Norway at 5:00 PM ET, followed by Argentina against Switzerland at 9:00 PM ET. The two winners will meet on Wednesday, July 15, with a spot in next Sunday’s final on the line in that matchup in Atlanta.
According to the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, Argentina is the heaviest favorite of the day, with England a favorite over Norway as well. Since these games are part of the Knockout Stage, it’s important to remember that every match is an elimination game for each team. Each of these teams is just 3 wins from hoisting the World Cup. If the game is tied at the end of regulation, extra time will be played, with two 15-minute halves plus stoppage time. There is no “Golden Goal,” and the entire period will be played even if a team scores. If there is no winner at the end of extra time, the teams will have a penalty shootout to determine the winner. As we’ve already seen from a few matches, penalty conversions and saves are important fantasy opportunities to keep in mind during this stage.

Top Play: Erling Haaland, Norway ($9,500)
Haaland’s run with Norway has been one of the top stories of this World Cup, and he has carried his team with 7 goals in his 4 contests. Haaland has racked up at least 29 DraftKings points in 3 of his 4 games, scoring 2 goals in each matchup against Iraq, Senegal, and Brazil.
In his team’s upset over Brazil, Haaland finished with 4 shots (3 on goal) and also got credit for 2 chances created. He’s an elite finisher in every way, scoring in space whether the ball is on the ground or in the air, and he’s clearly the top target for Norway’s offense. Sometimes his creativity does get a little overlooked, though, and he has also piled up 6 shots created in his 4 matches.
Haaland will have a tough matchup against England’s defense, but they haven’t been unbeatable. Congo DR had 1 goal against England in the first round of the Knockout Stage, and Mexico found the back of the net 2 times while putting 5 shots on goal. The England defense could also be fatigued after playing at altitude and defending with only 10 for much of the match. Jarell Quansah received the red card and a 2-game suspension, but he was only playing due to injuries to Reece James ($4,800; hamstring) and Djed Spence ($4,100; undisclosed). Both will be available but could be less than 100%, creating more opportunities for Haaland.
With the potential fatigue and Haaland’s exceptional form, he should be able to find cracks and get a goal or multiple goals against England to row his team to the semis.
