Tips for Starting Your Underdog Streak With a Pick-2
You need a successful two-pick entry to kick off your Underdog Streak, so here are some tips for building the arguably most important of the entry:
Acknowledge the Game You’re Playing
As I touched on in our Underdog Champions guide, two-pick entries are a bit of a fool’s game. They have low expected value (EV) and won’t help you get very far in large pools.
So, if you want to go for a streak, come to terms with the fact that you’ll have to swallow your pride and start with something below a 3-pick entry. It goes against everything I believe in, frankly, but it can be a way to have a little more fun with pick’em contests.
Strategize With Our Picks Tool
There are tons of ways you can go about building your two-pick entry. It can be tricky, though, because the players have to be from separate teams. So you can’t just bet on taking the higher on Lamar Jackson and Zay Flowers since this duo will likely go over their projections if they have a good day together.
You’ll have to employ more advanced strategies to get your 2-pick selection right. You might consider how two players on different teams will affect each others’ stats, though this approach can be tricky to master.

The good part about Streaks is that you can go at your own pace, so do your due diligence by staying updated on player performance, injuries, and other relevant sports news.
Stick to Strategy
Some people think that the final pick in their 11-pick streak is harder to get right than the third pick.
I know we’re not betting here, but that would be falling victim to what’s known as the gambler’s fallacy. This false belief implies that you’re due to get a pick wrong after having gotten so many in a row right.
So, you should stick to a strategy-based approach to ensure that you’re maximizing your chances of success. For instance, you might avoid a pick based off of feelings that a normally solid player is due for an off day.
Be Wary of Injuries
An injury can break your streak as quickly as the streak started.
Read Underdog’s full rules for specifics, but generally speaking, your pick will be graded if the player has any playing time at all. So if they get benched or injured before they have a chance to hit your higher projection, tough luck.
Of course, an injury could work out in your favor if you took the lower, but it’s not something you should rely on.
If your pick results in a tie or void (the latter happening, say, if a player gets injured before the game starts), the following could happen:
- Underdog will refund your streak if your first 2 picks result in a tie or void.
- Your next pick will replace a tied or voided 3-11 pick.
Use the ‘Win Now’ Feature
There’s no shame in taking the money and running. If you feel like you’ve pushed your luck far enough, consider using the ‘Win Now’ feature on Underdog.
This feature lets you cashout before hitting 11 streaks correctly. It’ll come with a lower payout of course, but hey, it’s better than nothing!

Streaks also aren’t compatible with injuries—one stroke of bad luck can spoil your roll.
