Pitcher Grind Down
- Edwin Jackson – Jackson can give you a good start every now and then, but he has a high ERA, a high WHIP, and struggles on the road. The Reds are a pretty tough lineup to face, especially when they are playing at Great American. Starter Rating = 3
- Tony Cingrani – Cingrani has become one of my favorite pitchers to take over the last couple months. He has become one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball and he is still only 24 years old. Love the matchup tonight against the Cubs who are a bad offense. Starter Rating = 9
Batter Grind Down
CHC – If you want to chase the long ball, both Donnie Murphy and Dioner Navarro give you a chance at getting one, but I’m suggesting to take Cingrani and let the K’s pile up.
CIN – Jackson has been equally bad against hitters from both sides of the plate. He’s giving up a .275 batting average to opponents with a slighly higher OPS to lefties. Shin-Soo Choo has been great against righties all season and I think he has a big game tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Julio Teheran – While Cingrani is probably my favorite pitcher tonight, Teheran is a close second. He has a 3.01 ERA on the season with a K rate of more than 8 per 9 innings. He faces a Marlins team that hasn’t given him much trouble this year. Starter Rating = 8
- Tom Koehler – Koehler has only pitched more than 5 innings once in his last 5 starts. His numbers are dropping and now is not the time to take a chance on him. We were all kind of waiting for his ERA to catch up to the rest of his stats, and now it finally has. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
ATL – The Braves have one of those offenses that can put up 5 runs in a single inning and then go the rest of the game without scoring. I like the matchup for them tonight against Koehler, especially for Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman who are both very good against right hand pitching.
MIA – No one really takes hitters from the Marlins outside of Giancarlo Stanton, and if they do, it’s usually in a much better position than the one tonight against Teheran.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jordan Zimmermann – If you look at his game logs, you would think that Zimmerman’s numbers may have fallen off quite a bit, but he is still rocking a solid 3.3 ERA and a 1.108 WHIP. He’s facing a Mets team that is batting a paltry .224 at home this season. Lot to like about his matchup, he just may have a tough time picking up the win. Starter Rating = 8
- Dillon Gee – Check out these home splits for Gee: 2.51 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. Definitely some impressive numbers. His problem is that he is running into a Nationals team that has finally found it’s offense after a season of being in the bottom third of the league. Starter Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
WAS – The Nats have really been swinging the bat well lately, especially Zimmerman, Werth, and Ramos. Not sure it’s the best matchup on the board in that big Citi Field, but if you like to ride the hot hand, those are your guys.
NYM – The Mets can largely be ignored for our purposes. We want hitters that are going to score positive fantasy points and there just aren’t many of those on the Mets. Daniel Murphy and Eric Young are your best bets, but they aren’t good ones against Zimmerman.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Francisco Liriano – Liriano has gotten rocked in two of his last four starts. Is that cause to be concerned or does that just mean that his price is going to come down a bit? I’m not worried about him too much yet though, he still can get you as many K’s as any pitcher not named Darvish. He’s got a big test tonight against the Rangers in Arlington. Starter Rating = 6
- Martin Perez – Perez has pitched well at home. It’s only been 5 starts though and sometimes you see stats that just don’t really mean anything. That’s how I feel about Perez’s 2.21 ERA at home. He’s got a tough matchup against the Pirates in one of the most hitter friendly parks in baseball. Starter Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
PIT – Give me Andrew McCutchen against a rookie lefty in Rangers Ballpark any day of the week. Cutch’s batting average against lefties is at .382 on the season. I also wouldn’t mind Marlon Byrd or Starling Marte if he happens to be in the lineup.
TEX – The Brewers sure made Liriano look bad in his last outing and the Rangers are a much better offense than the Brewers. But every game is different. I think Liriano bounces back and has a pretty good game.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Rick Porcello – Porcello has owned this White Sox team this year. He is 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA against them. The White Sox lineup certainly doesn’t scare me, but they have been scoring a decent number of runs lately. I think you can expect what you usually get from Porcello which is 6-7 innings, 5-6 K’s, a couple earned runs, and a shot at the win.
- Erik Johnson – Johnson pitched well in the minor leagues, but struggled a bit in his first start. Granted, it was against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium, but it’s not really going to get any easier in his second start as he faces the Tigers. I would still take a wait and see approach. Starter Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
DET – The Tigers face the rookie Johnson who is expected to pitch well in the majors after having great success in the minors. But you just never know. Take Miggy and Fielder, I will take established hitters over an unproven rookie.
CWS – Porcello will likely give up a couple runs tonight and he has struggled with left hand bats this season. May be a good time for a Alejandro De Aza / Adam Dunn combo. It’s a cheap combo that could really pay off.
