Pitcher Grind Down
- Tim Lincecum – The last time that Lincecum faced the Padres in Petco, he threw about 200 pitches and ended up with a no-hitter. That’s not bad, not bad at all. Lincecum has pitched well lately and should be taken with confidence today. Starter Rating = 8
- Eric Stults – I think today is a day to take both pitchers from this game. Stults is a very good pitcher at home with a 2.63 ERA on the season. He’s struggled a bit against SF this season, but the Giants aren’t great against lefties. Starter Rating = 6
Batter Grind Down
SF – I think Stults pitches a good game today, but Buster Posey is always in play against lefties. The pitcher’s park doesn’t affect his value too much because he doesn’t hit a ton of HR’s.
SD – After they couldn’t get a single hit off of Lincecum the last time they faced him, I don’t want to have anything to do with these bats.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jordan Zimmermann – Zimmerman has seen his ERA slowly creep up as the season has gone along. He always seems to have one bad inning that ends up costing him. I don’t love the matchup today against the Phillies whose offense hasn’t been bad over the last month. They have some talented lefties to face Zimmerman. Starter Rating = 5
- Roy Halladay – Halladay hasn’t looked much better since coming back from injury. He just gave up 5 earned runs to the Cubs in his last start. Until he shows that he can still pitch, stay away. Starter Rating = 2
Batter Grind Down
WAS – The Nationals have finally found some offense. They are on a roll right now and a matchup with Halladay shouldn’t slow them down. Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper are two solid plays.
PHI – I don’t necessarily love any individual Phillies bat, but they have Utley, Asche, Ruiz, Brown, and Ruf who have all been good against righties.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Zach Britton – Britton has not been able to find success in the majors. He pitches well in the minors but always seems to struggle when he gets the nod in the majors. I don’t think you will be sorry for not taking him today. Starter Rating = 3
- Zach McAllister – McAllister has actually been pretty good at home this season with a 3.48 ERA, but the general rule of thumb is to stay away from pitchers facing the Orioles, especially right hand pitchers. This is a game to target the hitters, not the pitchers. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
BAL – Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Nate McLouth, and Nick Markakis are all really good against right hand pitching. Oh, and don’t let me forget about Manny Machado and Matt Wieters.
CLE – The Indians have a lot of left handed bats that will have to face the dreaded lefty/lefty matchup, but I do like the Indians that can bat from the right side. That would be Carlos Santana and Nick Swisher.
Chicago White Sox vs. NY Yankees

Pitcher Grind Down
- Erik Johnson – Johnson is also making his first career start today after being called up from the minors. In the minors, Johnson has been very impressive with an ERA under 2 and a K rate of almost 9 per 9 innings. As always, I’m taking a wait and see approach, his nerves are going to be going crazy. Starter Rating = 2
- CC Sabathia – Sabathia hasn’t been good since he lost all of that weight and he hasn’t even really been on my radar. But I like the matchup against the White Sox, especially considering the fact that the opposing pitcher is a rookie making his first ever start. I think he surprises some people in this one. Starter Rating = 8
Batter Grind Down
CWS – The White Sox are not a great hitting team against lefties as they only have a .247 batting average as a team against them. I’m all about Sabathia today.
NYY – The value of the Yankee bats completely depends on how you feel about rookies making their debuts. If you are like me, I like to avoid the situation altogether or maybe take a hitter or two. Some people like to load up the bats against them. It’s up to you, but Robinson Cano and Brett Gardner both get the lefty/righty matchup and Soriano has been red hot.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Rick Porcello – Porcello is a pitcher that I often like to take on multiple pitcher sites because his price is always so cheap and he is always a big favorite. But today is a different story, taking any pitcher against the Sox in Fenway is risky, taking Porcello against the Sox in Fenway is just dumb. Starter Rating = 2
- Ryan Dempster – Dempster has a decent K rate, but does not have a favorable matchup against Detroit, especially if Miggy is in the lineup. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
DET – Austin Jackson has been playing much better than he did the first half of the season. I like him a lot today against Dempster who gives up a ton of hits. I also like Victor Martinez who has been racking up the hits.
BOS – This is one of those days where all of the Red Sox are in play. Porcello has a high ERA that is about to get highers. Good spot to stack if you are so inclined to do so.
