Stack Em Up: Part Two - Pitchers To Stack Against

Best Pitchers to Stack Against: Home Runs Allowed Per Game

Obviously you want to look for guys with high ERA’s and for games with high over/unders. Sometimes when the wind is blowing out in Wrigley you just shouldn’t care who is pitching and stack em up regardless. The process of picking on pitchers is much more complicated than just breaking down which teams have the most upside, but the fastest way to score points in a GPP with a stack is by hitting the longball.

These pitchers have given up the most so far per start (all pitchers with greater than one home run allowed per start shown):

PLAYER HRA TEAM STARTS ERA HR/Start
Josh Stinson 4 BAL 1 7.94 4.00

Jarrod Parker 9 OAK 8 6.86 1.13
Ryan Dempster 9 BOS 8 3.75 1.13

While there are certainly a few names on this list you can toss out because they were reassigned or released, there is still plenty of interesting info that can be found here. Names like Matt Cain and Ryan Vogelsong from San Francisco stand out, and Mark Buehrle seems like the kind of guy you should be targeting VERY often.

Cole Hamels 7-Apr PHI KCR 9 8 2 1
David Price 7-Apr TBR CLE 10 8 3 2

There are definitely some shocking names on here. I think the trend you see is that some of the aces who allow huge games to opponents are pitchers who heavily rely on getting people out by way of the K. Sale, Hamels, Price and even Cain are high strikeout guys who can get shelled when contact is made with a hard thrown ball. So don’t sleep on a stack just because they are facing a great pitcher. Be sure to look at what type of pitcher he is as well. Of course for the non-aces listed, they are just horrible pitchers who throw the ball and pray for the best.

I hope all of this helps, I’ll try and update this in a month with new info. Take it easy.
