Chicago Bears vs. Cleveland Browns Prediction: Is Charlie Wright?
Is Charlie Wright? explores one NFL bet each week based on a major decision point. Ideally, this article will lay out a case for the bet in a thorough manner, giving the reader the opportunity to either agree with the perspective and tail the bet or disagree with the breakdown and fade the pick.
Was Charlie Wright? (DEN +3)
Yes, but it was unsatisfying. Denver was ahead and dominating on defense before Justin Herbert went down, and could’ve still cruised to victory without the injury. Still tough to get too excited when one of the big-name QBs goes down. We have so few left!
Continue to split the props. Easy win for Hubbard, as Carolina ridiculously continued to run the ball despite a massive deficit. Kupp looked a bit more healthy and put up a big game against a good defense. Will be done fading him now.
Records after Week 14
- Charlie: 9-5
- Prop Picks: 16-12
Week 15 Pick: Chicago +3 (-110 on Fanatics Sportsbook)
Reason: Front offices tank, players and coaches don’t tank.
Trading Justin Fields is the leading discussion around Chicago, and rightfully so. The Bears’ front office has a massive, franchise-altering decision to make this offseason. But the players and coaches aren’t thinking about Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. They’re trying to win games.
Chicago has won three of its last four games, and it should probably be four straight. They fumbled away a win against Detroit a few weeks back, but took care of business against the Lions in Week 14. It’s plenty congested at the bottom of the NFC, yet the Bears have a shot at the final playoff spot. They’re only a game behind the Packers, who currently occupy the No. 7 spot.
Fields’ return has been huge for this offense, but it’s the defense that’s really stepped up. Chicago is allowing just 16.75 points per game over their past four contests. They’re up to 12th in total yards allowed per game, and give up the 2nd-fewest rushing yards per contest.
Cleveland will be a tough test, especially on the road. But are we really sold on Joe Flacco being the answer? It’s a a fun story, but he’s completing just 55% of his passes. He’s posted 6.3 yards per attempt across two starts. Those are Taylor Heinicke numbers.
This should be a gritty, defensive battle. Getting a full field goal is big.
PICK: Chicago +3 (-110 on Fanatics Sportsbook)
NFL Player Props for Week 15
Desmond Ridder Under 185.5 Passing Yards (-114 on FanDuel)
Excellent sell-high spot here. Ridder just went off for a career-high 347 passing yards against Tampa Bay. The Bucs are one of the best matchups in the league for quarterbacks. Atlanta also played from behind for the majority of the game. This matchup against Carolina should be the opposite. The Panthers allow the 3rd-fewest passing yards per game. Teams tend to play from ahead and run all over them. Would expect a big Bijan Robinson game and not much from Ridder.
Puka Nacua Over 66.5 Receiving Yards (-114 on FanDuel)
The Rams’ passing game gets a gift this week, hosting the Commanders. Washington allows the most passing yards and most receiving yards to wideouts per game. They’re giving up a massive 15.45 yards per reception to wide receivers. No other team is above 15 YPR, and only four teams are above 14. Nacua’s rookie season has been awesome from many angles, but the volume might be the most impressive. He’s had 7+ targets in every single game this season. Kupp’s return hasn’t been a problem, as Nacua has averaged 8.3 targets per game in the nine contests they’ve played together.
