MLB Player Props Today
- Jose Berrios u4.5 strikeouts
- Drew Smyly u4.5 strikeouts
- Blake Snell more than 6.5 strikeouts
Jose Berrios u4.5 strikeouts (-140), DraftKings
Jose Berrios still carries with him some amount of value simply by virtue of name recognition as a former top prospect, who had extraordinary hype as a member of the Minnesota Twins organization. However, that value does not help him when he steps between the white lines. This year, Berrios has managed to eclipse this market number in four of his five turns through the rotation, but it is difficult to see him continuing to have strikeout success if his 55.7% first-pitch strike percentage remains the same. No team in baseball has struck out less often this season against right-handed pitching than the Boston Red Sox. Take the under in this spot – grab the line early before it becomes unplayable.
Drew Smyly u4.5 strikeouts (+108), FanDuel
Drew Smyly nearly threw an improbable Perfect Game on April 21 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that has been one of only two games this season in which he has found much success in terms of swings and misses. In five turns through the rotation, he has only eclipsed this market number twice, despite a few decent matchups. Today, he has to contend with the Washington Nationals, which have struck out less often against southpaws than every team in baseball this year not named the Houston Astros. Smyly does not have many targets in this lineup that are going to struggle to make contact. The under is a good look here, especially at plus money.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Blake Snell more than 6.5 strikeouts, PrizePicks
Blake Snell has not recorded seven strikeouts in a start since March, but there are reasons to believe that changes this evening against the Cincinnati Reds. Snell often pitches himself out of games due to his poor command, but the Reds are far from a patient offense – ranking 19th in walk rate against southpaws in 2023. Cincinnati also ranks 21st in OPS and 24th in ISO, meaning that run prevention should not be an overly difficult task for Snell in this spot, either. The Reds rank 22nd in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching this year. If there was ever a “get right” situation for Snell, this is it.
