MLB Player Props Today
- Nestor Cortes o5.5 strikeouts
- Alex Cobb u3.5 strikeouts
- Jose Barrero more than 0.5 total bases
Nestor Cortes o5.5 strikeouts (-158), Caesars
Entering play on Sunday, Nestor Cortes has eclipsed this market number in three consecutive starts, including a matchup against the Los Angeles Angels – which have struck out less against left-handed pitching than all but three teams in 2023. Today, Cortes gets a more favorable matchup against the Texas Rangers, which rank 17th out of 30 teams in strikeout percentage to begin the new season. Cortes has been working ahead in counts consistently, with a first-pitch strike rate of 64.0%+ in three of his last four turns through the rotation. If he can continue to get strike one this afternoon, he should have a great opportunity to hit the over here.
Alex Cobb u3.5 strikeouts (+115), DraftKings
The San Diego Padres have been striking out at an alarming rate this year, ranking 25th in strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching out of 30 teams. However, this is still not an easy number for Cobb to clear on Sunday. In Cobb’s most recent outing, he had only four strikeouts despite throwing a complete game shutout. He had only two strikeouts on April 12 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In total this season, Cobb is striking out only 16.7% of left-handed hitters, of which there are likely to be at least five this afternoon. At plus money, in this extreme altitude, the under is a worthwhile risk for bettors.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Jose Barrero more than 0.5 total bases, PrizePicks
We trusted Jose Barrero on Friday night and he came through for us, so we are going to run things back again on Sunday as we look to close the week on a high note. Barrero has struggled mightily to begin his MLB career, but he carries a significant amount of prospect pedigree, and there are at least some signs suggesting that he is finally beginning to turn the corner. From April 10 to April 22, Barrero posted a .297 batting average across 44 plate appearances. In that stretch, he improved his plate discipline and was beginning to make more contact as well. We only need one base knock in this spot – trust Barrero to get the job done.
