What kind of performances can we expect on Thursday from Michael Grove, Fernando Tatis, and Kris Bryant? Follow along as our MLB betting expert, Nick Galaida, breaks down three of his favorite MLB prop bets and DFS pick’em predictions for today – Thursday, April 20, 2023. Happy Thursday! Yesterday, we went 1-2 on MLB props, which was likely our own fault for playing three hitter props. Today, we have a pitcher prop pick as we look to improve upon our early season 24-7 (77.4%) record in this category to begin the year.

Today’s MLB slate begins with a matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox at 1:35 p.m. EST, but there are six games with a scheduled first pitch beginning at 4:05 p.m. EST or later – offering bettors plenty of opportunity to take some informed risks if they are unable to get away from work this afternoon.

Below are three prop leans for April 20 as we look to stay hot!

MLB Player Props Today

Michael Grove u15.5 outs recorded (-155), BetMGM

In two of his three starts this season, Michael Grove has comfortably gone under this market number – recording only 12 outs against the Colorado Rockies and 10 outs against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Grove fared much better in his most recent start against the Chicago Cubs, recording 17 outs while allowing only one earned run, which is the primary reason this market number is north of 15 ahead of first pitch on Thursday. Grove gets to face the Cubs again later today, but it is a hyper-proximity matchup after he saw them only five days ago. Grove, primarily a two-pitch pitcher, is likely to find life difficult in the rematch. When pitchers see the same lineup twice in a short time period, the offense nearly always has the advantage. Expect that to be the case this evening – take the under on Grove’s pitching outs.

Fernando Tatis u1.5 total bases (+110), DraftKings

In 39 plate appearances at Triple-A prior to getting promoted to the big league club. “(player-popup #fernando-tatis)Fernando Tatis Jr had a .515 batting average, seven home runs, a .697 ISO, and an incredulous 1.802 OPS. Of course, everyone and their mother…and their grandmother will be betting the over on Tatis’ Jr.’s total bases in his return to the field on Thursday evening. Yet, he will have to contend with Ryne Nelson, the starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, in this matchup. Nelson has been extremely strong against right-handed batters early in his MLB career – limiting them to a .176 opponent batting average. Nelson was also tough on right-handed batters during his minor league career. At plus money, this could be a fun wager as long as you are not a fan of the San Diego Padres.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Kris Bryant more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs, PrizePicks

We have had far more success in this article early in 2023 trusting pitchers with our money compared to hitters. However, one of the hitters who did us a solid was Kris Bryant, who gets a favorable matchup against southpaw Matt Strahm on Thursday evening. In his career, Bryant owns a .301 batting average, .978 OPS, 13.6% walk rate, and a 156 wRC+ against left-handed pitching, compared to a .273 batting average, .848 OPS, 10.7% walk rate, and a 126 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. Strahm does not allow an abundance of hits to right-handed batters, but inconsistent command will create an opportunity for Bryant to get on base early in this spot. In the latter frames, Bryant will get to face a Philadelphia Phillies arm barn that has been extremely underwhelming to begin the year. Bryant should be able to get the job done here.
