MLB Player Props Today
- Kevin Gausman 6.5 strikeouts
- Nathan Eovaldi o5.5 strikeouts
- Eduardo Rodriguez less than 4.0 pitcher strikeouts
Kevin Gausman o6.5 strikeouts (-155), Caesars
Entering play on Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers rank 28th in strikeout percentage. They have swung at the fourth-most pitches outside of the strike zone, meaning that they have consistently been helping opposing pitchers by swinging at unhittable offerings. Detroit also ranks 24th in Z-Contact percentage, indicating that they have struggled to make contact even when they get something in the strike zone. Further hurting their ability to put the ball in play is that they are taking a lot of called strikes – ranking 17th in baseball. Kevin Gausman finished in the 75th percentile in whiff rate and the 99th percentile in chase rate in 2022. This is a worthwhile risk for bettors.
Nathan Eovaldi o5.5 strikeouts (-146), FanDuel
In 423 plate appearances to begin the new campaign, the Kansas City Royals rank 29th in strikeout percentage. Their primary issue has been plate discipline – swinging at the second-most pitches outside of the strike zone of any team in baseball thus far. In 2022, Nathan Eovaldi ranked in only the 48th percentile in whiff percentage, but he ranked in the 82nd percentile in chase rate, meaning that he excels at getting hitters to swing at bad pitches. The over makes a lot of sense in this spot on Wednesday, especially with the strikeout-friendly Jansen Visconti calling balls and strikes.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Eduardo Rodriguez less than 4.0 pitcher strikeouts, PrizePicks
Today’s game between the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays will have the strikeout-friendly Ryan Wills calling balls and strikes, but that is unlikely to be enough to help Eduardo Rodriguez miss many bats on Wednesday. Entering play, Toronto ranks 10th in called strikes at the plate this year, indicating that they are less impacted by umpire factors than other offenses around the league. Rodriguez had only one strikeout in 4.2 innings of work his last time through the rotation against the Houston Astros. Expect him to find it difficult to get punch outs once again.
