On Friday, the NBA slate features nine games, beginning with the New Orleans Pelicans against the Orlando Magic at 7:00 p.m. EST. Officially less than one month away from the All-Star Game, teams are being cautious with the health of their star players, making it imperative that bettors keep their eyes on the injury report and beat writer news throughout the day.
Despite getting hooked on Anthony Edwards last night, we still finished the night 2-1 in this article and 4-3 overall on our NBA free plays – including a +180 hit on the Minnesota Timberwolves ML! NBA Player Props, January 20, 2023
- Luka Doncic u34.5 points
- Keldon Johnson o23.5 points
- Myles Turner o15.5 points
Luka Doncic u34.5 points (-115), DraftKings
On the season Luka Doncic is averaging 33.7 points per game. He is averaging 31.3 points in seven games since the calendar flipped to 2023. Tonight, he draws a difficult matchup against a Miami Heat team that ranks 6th in the NBA in defensive efficiency across the last 30 days, allowing only 112.1 points per 100 possessions. Doncic is particularly adept at drawing fouls, averaging 13.4 free-throw attempts per game in January. However, Miami is the best defense in the league at playing defense without fouling – allowing a league-best 20.7 opponent free-throw attempts per contest. This is a large number for Doncic to cover in a tough matchup, take the under.
Keldon Johnson o23.5 points (+108), Caesars
Per CourtIQ, Keldon Johnson is averaging 26.3 points per 36 minutes of action this season when Devin Vassell is on the sidelines. Excluding his January 6 contest against the Detroit Pistons, in which Johnson left early due to injury, he has eclipsed this market number in 9-of-12 games with Vassell in street clothes. Johnson has attempted at least 25 shots in each of his last two games, finally looking healthy on Tuesday in a 36-point performance. The Los Angeles Clippers are a formidable defense when healthy, but Johnson’s volume is simply too high for this play to be available at plus-money. Take the over here and live with the result.
Myles Turner o15.5 points (-125), PointsBet
After scoring only seven points in a blowout loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, bettors are getting a discount on “(player-popup #myles-turner)Myles Turner”:/players/myles-turner-18915’s points prop this evening due to recency bias. Prior to the loss against the Thunder, Turner had scored 14 points or more in nine consecutive games, with three games of at least 29 points in that span. Tonight, Turner gets a favorable matchup against a Denver Nuggets team that ranks 29th in opponent field goal percentage in the restricted area this year. Turner is averaging 11.0 shot attempts per game this season, 4.2 of which are coming in the restricted area. Expect him to get a few easy looks around the rim, and for him to have a bounce-back performance to start the weekend.
