On Monday, the NBA slate features seven games, beginning with a pair of east coast matchups at 7:00 p.m. EST. Bettors are advised to keep an eye on the status of these key players throughout the day, as their absence could open up additional opportunities for other players on their respective rosters.

NBA Player Props, January 23, 2023

Giannis Antetokounmpo o28.5 points (-105), MGM

Tonight, Giannis Antetokounmpo will return to the floor for the first time since January 11. Likely a reaction to Antetokounmpo’s underwhelming three games prior to sitting out for nearly two weeks, the market has his points prop nearly three points below his season average for tonight’s contest. In three games prior to his absence, Antetokounmpo scored nine points, 22 points, and seven points, respectively, with 10 or fewer field goal attempts in two of those three games.

His lack of aggressiveness on the offensive end of the floor was likely due to genuine knee soreness, which was hurting his ability to effectively drive into the paint and finish around the rim. Ahead of his return, there have been no reports of a minutes restriction, and all signs point to Antetokounmpo being fully healthy. Facing a Detroit Pistons team that ranks 29th in defensive efficiency this year, this is a worthwhile stab for bettors.

Anthony Edwards o26.5 points (-117), Caesars

On Saturday, Anthony Edwards scored 44 points on an efficient 17 of 29 against the Houston Rockets in a 113-104 victory. After having one day off, Edwards gets the exact same matchup against the Rockets, but this time on the road. Entering play today, Houston ranks 28th in defensive efficiency, 22nd in opponent field goal percentage, 24th in opponent three-point percentage, and 17th in opponent free-throw attempts per game. Simply, they do not have the defensive resources to make life difficult for Edwards whatsoever. Expect another strong performance from Edwards in this spot.

Collin Sexton o13.5 points (-115), PointsBet

In four games since returning from injury, Collin Sexton is averaging 16.3 points on an efficient 55.8% from the floor and 57.1% from beyond-the-arc. Unquestionably, his extreme efficiency will regress at some point, but that is unlikely to happen tonight against a defensively-challenged Charlotte Hornets team. In 26 road games this season, the Hornets rank 20th in defensive efficiency, allowing 115.9 points per 100 possessions, and fifth in pace – a recipe for a high-scoring affair. Away from home, Charlotte ranks 22nd in opponent field goal percentage, 20th in opponent three-point percentage, and 19th in opponent free-throw attempts per game. Expect Sexton to play near 30 minutes on Monday, and for him to have a great opportunity to hit the over on his points prop.
