NBA Player Props, January 7, 2023
- DeMar DeRozan o26.5 points
- Jakob Poeltl o11.5 points – Editor’s Note: Jakob Poeltl has been ruled out.
- Jaylen Brown o26.5 points
DeMar DeRozan o26.5 points (-110)
It is difficult to envision a more favorable matchup for DeMar DeRozan than the one he has on Saturday night against the Utah Jazz. On the road this season, Utah ranks 24th in the NBA in defensive efficiency, allowing 116.2 points per 100 possessions. Their defense has been even worse away from home since December 1, where they are allowing 118.5 points per 100 possessions. DeRozan has failed to eclipse this number in four of his last five games, but his shot volume has been high in all but one of those contests. Expect him to be aggressive on the offensive end of the floor this evening, as he looks to bounce-back from an underwhelming 12-point performance yesterday against the defensive-minded Philadelphia 76ers.
Jakob Poeltl o11.5 points (-130)
Editor’s Note: Jakob Poeltl has been ruled out.
Per CourtIQ, Jakob Poeltl is averaging 16.4 points per 36 minutes of action this season with Keldon Johnson off of the floor. Johnson left yesterday’s win against the Detroit Pistons with an injury and appears unlikely to suit-up on Saturday, on the second half of a back-to-back set. The Boston Celtics are a formidable defense, but they have allowed the fifth-most field goal attempts in the paint this season, ranking 24th in opponent field goal percentage in that area of the floor. Poeltl is not top-of-mind for bettors when they are looking to bet an over for a points prop, but he should have good volume this evening, and he has an under-the-radar favorable matchup in this spot.
Jaylen Brown o26.5 points (-109)
Entering play, Jaylen Brown has eclipsed this number in six of his last seven games, scoring at least 29 points in each of the six contests in which he has gone over this market number. Through 39 games this season, the San Antonio Spurs rank 30th in defensive efficiency and 30th in opponent three-point percentage. Brown, who has attempted at least seven shots from beyond-the-arc in six of his last seven trips to the hardwood, will have another great opportunity to cash this ticket for bettors – assuming that the Spurs can keep this game competitive enough to have Brown play at least a few minutes in the fourth quarter.
