NBA Player Props, January 3, 2023

Jaylen Brown o26.5 points (-110)

Entering play, Jaylen Brown has eclipsed this number in five consecutive games, including matchups against multiple teams that rank in the top-nine in defensive efficiency this season. Brown is consistently a high-usage player, but his volume has increased even further across his last seven games, during which he is averaging 23.9 shot attempts. Tonight, Brown gets a favorable matchup against an Oklahoma City Thunder defense that ranks 25th in opponent three-point attempts and 23rd in opponent three-point percentage across their last 12 games. Brown, averaging 10.6 shots from beyond-the-arc since December 23, should have ample volume to cash another over in this spot.

Giannis Antetokounmpo o33.5 points (-110)

During the month of December, Giannis Antetokounmpo averaged 33.1 points on 21.5 shot attempts per game. Per EdgHouse, Antetokounmpo has only eclipsed this number in 14-of-30 (46.7% hit-rate) games this year, but he is 11-for-18 (61.5% hit-rate) to the over since November 18, including 6-of-8 (75.0% hit-rate) in home games during that time period. This evening, Antetokounmpo has a favorable matchup against the Washington Wizards, a team that ranks 12th in opponent field goal percentage in the restricted area and 29th in opponent field goal attempts per game in the paint this season. Expect him to be aggressive on the offensive end of the floor and for him to have a good opportunity to cash the over here.

Derrick White u10.5 (-110)

Derrick White is averaging only 10.1 points per game this season, and that number dropped even further last month, when he averaged 8.2 points in 14 contests. In tonight’s matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, White could struggle to find much success against a defense that defends his hot-spots well. In December, the Thunder ranked better than league average defending the restricted area and the paint, and they have made an effort to limit shot attempts on above-the-break three-pointers this season as well – allowing the 10th-fewest such tries from beyond-the-arc. Though White is not a heavily wagered-on player, there is value on the under here for Tuesday’s slate.
