The New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts will battle in a rare edition of Saturday Night Football this evening at Lucas Oil Stadium. Entering play, the Patriots have won seven games in a row and have the best point differential in the entire league. The Colts won last week, but remain two games behind the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South division.
Oddsmakers expect a tightly-contested matchup between the two talented teams as they try to improve their postseason chances, pricing the Colts as 2.5-point home favorites on the spread. As we approach kickoff, the value on the spread and the total has been reduced compared to its opening market price. Instead of forcing action on saturated markets, those betting on Thursday Night Football may find more expected value by perusing player props across online sportsbooks.
Patriots vs. Colts Player Props
Mac Jones o228.5 Passing Yards
Mac Jones attempted only three passes in his most recent outing against the Buffalo Bills. For that reason, the over on his passing prop this week is likely not the most sought after option by bettors–understandably. Still, this number is too low against one of the worst secondary units in the NFL. New England loves to run the football, but even more than that–they love to exploit the weaknesses of other teams. This could be one of the Patriots’ more pass-heavy game plans in 2021. Take the over in this spot.
Carson Wentz o220.5 Passing Yards
The Colts have placed a heavy emphasis on running the ball in recent weeks against exploitable run defenses, which has likely resulted in this number being as low as it is. In three of Wentz’s last four games, he has failed to eclipse even 200 passing yards. However, there are multiple reasons that Wentz could have a better statistical output this evening. For one, the Colts could find themselves trailing in this contest, which would necessitate throwing the ball more frequently. Wentz has gone over this number in five of Indianapolis’ six losses this season. Secondly, Belichick is likely to take away Indianapolis’ best offensive weapon–”(player-popup #jonathan-taylor)Jonathan Taylor”:/players/jonathan-taylor-1844485. These two factors could result in a pass-heavy approach, and thus, more yards for Wentz.
Jonathan Taylor u95.5 Rushing Yards
New England has been far from elite against the run this season, but if there is one thing that Bill Belichick coached teams do well, it is taking away the other team’s best option on offense. Taylor leads the NFL in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and is fifth in yards-per-carry. Expect Belichick and the Patriots defense to do everything they can to slow down one of the best running backs in football. Taylor is likely to see plenty of volume in this one, but he might not have much room to run if the Patriots stack the box and force the Colts to win this one through the air.
Rhamondre Stevenson o70.5 Rushing Yards
In this contest, Damien Harris has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, which should result in plenty of opportunities for Rhamondre Stevenson to put together a strong performance on the ground. Running behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, it is likely that a lot of running backs would be able to eclipse this rushing threshold if given ample touches. Stevenson totaled 78 yards rushing against Buffalo in a much tougher matchup. Stevenson also had 62 yards against the Panthers and 69 yards against the Falcons on limited attempts. In both games that Stevenson has seen more than 12 carries, he has hit 100 yards. This is a strong play.
