On Saturday afternoon, the Las Vegas Raiders and the Cincinnati Bengals will open the NFL postseason at Paul Brown Stadium. The Raiders clinched an improbable playoff berth, winning each of their final four regular season contests by a combined 12 points. The Bengals secured the AFC North division title after a stellar second half of the campaign, led by a dynamic offense featuring two of the most exciting young players in the game in Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.
Despite the recent success of Las Vegas, oddsmakers are expecting a relatively easy victory for Cincinnati on Saturday, pricing them as 5.5-point home favorites on the spread As we approach kickoff, the value on the spread and the total has been reduced compared to its opening market price. Instead of forcing action on saturated markets, bettors may find more expected value on player props for this wild card game.
Raiders vs. Bengals Player Props
Ja’Marr Chase o70.5 receiving yards (-110)
PrizePicks: O/U 68.5 Yards
Ja’Marr Chase is by no means a dark-horse play on Saturday. Coming off of one of the best rookie seasons by a wide receiver in NFL history, Chase has an opportunity to grow his brand even further in the opening round of the postseason. Removing Week 18 from the data set (due to a limited snap count in a meaningless game), Chase has eclipsed this number in three of his last four contests, totaling 77 yards against the San Francisco 49ers, 125 yards against the Baltimore Ravens, and 266 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs. Chase led the Bengals in receptions, receiving yards, and targets this fall. On Saturday, he is likely to see quite a bit of coverage from Brandon Facyson, who is one of the worst cornerbacks in the league. Expect Burrow to target his favorite weapon early and often in this one. Take the over.
Ja’Marr Chase – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+110)
PrizePicks: 0.5 Touchdowns
Chase has arguably the most favorable matchup of any wide receiver on the field today for the Bengals. Tyler Boyd is likely to be in the slot in three-receiver sets, drawing a tough matchup against Nate Hobbs, who is the primary slot cornerback for the Raiders. Tee Higgins is likely to draw Casey Hayward Jr. out-wide, with the talented Trevon Moehrig over the top on that side of the field as free safety help. Chase should have plenty of chances to pick on the Raiders’ two least talented members in the secondary, cornerback Brandon Facyson and safety Roderic Teamer. The primary risk to Chase’s stat line in this one is a blowout in which the Bengals are able to keep the ball on the ground a lot. Otherwise, buy stock in the rookie and count your money later.
Joe Mixon o18.5 receiving yards (-110)
PrizePicks: 16.5 yards
On the season, Mixon has eclipsed this number in 6-of-16 games played. Per EdgHouse, the Raiders have allowed an average of 6.0 targets and 32.7 receiving yards per game to opposing running backs since Week 13. In 2021, Mixon accounted for 47.1 percent of Cincinnati’s running back targets and 49.4 percent of all receptions by running backs. His main competitor for touches, Samaje Perine, did not record an offensive snap in Week 18, despite Mixon being rested. Perine has seen his role reduced in recent weeks to mostly special teams work. Mixon has an 87.5 percent catch-rate this year out of the backfield. Bettors should expect him to see at least a handful of targets. One or two missed tackles is all that is needed to cash the over on this low number.
Derek Carr – Yes Interception (-132)
PrizePicks: N/A
We are at the point where this prop is approaching auto-bet status for Derek Carr. This fall, Carr ranked 24th in the NFL with 14 interceptions. In the Raiders’ last five games, Carr totaled six interceptions, while failing to throw for more than 263 yards in a game. His recent play has been underwhelming to say the least. When these two teams met in November, Carr was picked off once in a 32-13 defeat. Expect him to make at least one or two errant throws again in the rematch–at least one of which could result in an interception.
