2023 Charles Schwab Challenge: PGA Golf Betting Picks This Week

Key Statistics

Unless mentioned otherwise, all strokes gained statistics will be referenced over the player’s previous 36 rounds on the PGA Tour.

Chris Kirk +4000 (PointsBet)

Chris Kirk played the Charles Schwab eleven times over the course of his PGA career. The sight of his first victory, Kirk has never missed a cut at this event. Shocked? Of course not. Approach, wedges, and putting are the tools that Kirk offers week in and week out.

Kirk leads the field in proximity from 100-125 yards and sits fourth in the primary Par 4 category. This course was designed to fit his game. After his second career victory earlier this season, we know Kirk is in great form this year. If we are going to pass on the top of the board to save money, Kirk makes for a fine opening play on our card.

If you haven’t used him in one-and-done yet, Kirk makes sense given the likely usage of some of the bigger names at the top of the odds board. Either way, we open our card with 0.6 units on PointsBet.

Cam Davis +4000 (BetMGM)

Cam Davis finished his PGA Championship run in a big way and seems to be rounding into great form heading down the stretch of the PGA schedule. While Davis is known for length, he plays short courses very well because he can club down and play target golf.

Finishing 7th last season, Davis can work his way around a short, tight course. Comparably, Davis has back-to-back top ten finishes at the RBC Heritage — another course that requires precision over distance. While he isn’t the best putter, he is a phenomenal tee-to-green player (gaining 13.8 strokes last weekend). If the putter gets hot, Davis should be in the mix again on Sunday.

We wager 0.6 units on Davis just like Chris Kirk above. Davis makes for an interesting OAD play if you are chasing and hoping to catch a win before the next large prize purse.

Brendon Todd +8000 (FanDuel)

The Toddfather has knocked on the door each time we included him in our picks article. We love Todd when length isn’t vital and fairways and putting are more important. Todd is going to hit plenty of fairways and put himself in position to attack pins. We know he can roll it as he gained 8 strokes putting at the Wells Fargo.

Todd has three top tens at this event including a third place finish last year. He has gained on the greens heavily in all but two starts. If Todd can have a solid week striking the golf ball, he should be in the mix. Todd makes for a very good ladder play given his history at the event and the favorable price.

Ben Martin +17500 (BetMGM)

Martin makes his way back to our article after a strong run of form halted in his last event. While he doesn’t possess the class of the top of this field with his irons, Martin sits in the top 20 in most of our relevant stat categories this week over his last 36 rounds.

At this price, we are banking on a man who has never missed the cut at this event. For an outright, he only costs a sprinkle but we should place him in consideration for both top finisher bets and DFS lineups.

Golfer Odds Units Payout
Justin Thomas +4000 0.6 24
Cam Davis +4000 0.6 24
Brendon Todd +8000 0.3 24

After a rough go at Oak Hill, we can surely use a cheap week. At this rate, we will need two outright bets to hit to get unstuck for the year — a depiction of how tough golf betting really is to master. Bankroll management is of the utmost importance. We go cheap this week and save some in the clip for live betting or future weeks.
