Top DFS Picks and Fantasy Pick’em Plays for Week 0
Caleb Williams: The quarterback options for this first slate of games leave a lot to be desired. There are a lot of run-heavy teams, a lot of projected blowouts, and a lot of low-upside quarterbacks. Caleb Williams is really the one quarterback that doesn’t fit that mold. He’s likely going to be the top pick in the NFL Draft this coming year, he’s coming off a fantastic 2022 season, and he has about six wide receivers with NFL talent. I can’t see fading him this weekend.
Charvis Thornton: The first big injury issue on the 2023 slate is with the running back situation at Louisiana Tech. It sounds like they are going to be without both Marquis Crosby and Tyre Shelton this weekend, which leaves them very thin on depth at the running back position. Expect Thornton to carry a big workload against FIU, and he is one of the best point-per-dollar DFS plays on the slate.
Mario Williams: If you are shooting for some big GPP prize pools this weekend, the best way to get different will be with your exposure to the USC wide receivers. I mentioned above that Caleb Williams is the clear QB1 on the slate, and someone in this receiving corps is going to have a big day. The problem is figuring out who that will be. Dorian Singer and Brenden Rice project as the chalk, so give a look to Mario Williams as a pivot. He’s got plenty of talent of his own, and it’s only going to take one big play to make him the difference-maker. He is listed as the starter on the depth chart over Tahj Washington, though USC will use plenty of 4-WR sets and rotate players. Even Washington can be considered as a risk/reward option.
