DFS Tournament Report: August 18th

Two tournaments had $100,000 first-place prizes on Tuesday night and it was a battle of many of the best in DFS that saw two of the more consistent winners in recent history taking down the top prizes. Here’s a quick recap of those two GPP’s as well as a breakdown of the nights five-figure winners:

DraftKings $400K Mega Gold Glove ($1,060 entry)

When a buy-in reaches four figures, it’s going to narrow the field and bring out the best of the best and such was the case Tuesday night in the DraftKings $400K Mega Gold Glove. Early on it was one of tinderella’s teams with a Detroit stack leading the way over the likes of BigPenguin, dandydon, and TonyDunstWPT. Tinderella would hold the lead for most of the night but had one major concern for his Detroit stack and that was the possibility of the game being postponed and the stats from that game not counting.

The game would eventually resume and it would be to the benefit of Rotomania (#40 in RG’s TPOY race) as he had a double stack of Detroit and Chicago Cubs players and the game would end up being a 10-8 slugfest. Coupled with strong pitching from Hisashi Iwakuma and James Shields, Rotomania’s team surged into the lead and never looked back as Tinderella’s team would drop to third (for a still very respectable payday of $25,000). After dominating the live qualifiers over the past month, Rotomania proved he can do it in big GPP’s as he wins $100,000 for this one as well as taking down $50,000 for winning the $300K Tuesday Special with the same lineup.

Final Results:

1. Rotomania 217.45, $100,000
2. Gateman07 203.25, $40,000
3. tinderella 199.45, $25,000
4. TeeJayOrTj 196.05, $15,000
5. ehafner 193.85, $10,000

FanDuel $400K Super Slugger ($1,065 Entry)

It was a who’s who in DFS in the FanDuel Super Slugger and early on it was a battle between RotoGrinders CEO, Cal Spears, and ganondorf to see who could hold the top spot with Spears and his Toronto/Philly game stack battling against ganondorf’s strong start due to Seth Smith and Eugenio Suarez homers. Those teams would drop off and it would be savbag taking the lead with strong pitching from Eduardo Rodriguez and a double dong game from Curtis Granderson to go along with J.D. Martinez early homer.

Ultimately though it would be @ryazan who would take the lead with a double stack of the Coors game and an outstanding start from James Shield. Ryazan, the #42 ranked player in the RG TPOY race, would see four of those players collect homers and he only had to fight off the late finishing Detroit-Cubs stacks to take down the big money. bcalicore had one of those stacks but he could finish no better than 6th and ryazan held off the likes of ganondorf and ehafner to win the $100,000 first place prize (along with another $20,000 for a fourth-place lineup). Ganondorf would have to settle for $60,000 in winnings for his second and fifth place finishes.

Final Results

1. ryazan2000 67.25, $100,000
2. ganondorf 64.5, $50,000
3. ehafner 63.5, $30,000
4. ryazan2000 62.75, $20,000
5. ganondorf 62.25, $10,000
