DFS Tournament Report: July 30th
Only one qualifier took place last night and a late home run from Anthony Rizzo was the difference maker. The big news of the night, however, was the domination of ehafner on FanDuel. The #5 ranked player in the RG TPOY race, he took down the two big GPPs on FanDuel including an impressive 1st-3rd place in the Grand Slam and 1st-2nd place finishes in the Monster. Those five finishes alone netted him $62,000 in winnings. Another top ranked grinder, SamENole (#20), took down the DraftKings Perfect Game for $25,000. Here’s a quick rundown of the live qualifier and the big winners of the night:
FanDuel $4 Million WFBC Qualifier ($200 Entry)
If you didn’t have Brandon Phillips and his 22.75 point outburst on your roster last night, you were drawing dead in terms of taking down a top spot in the $4 Million WFBC Qualifier. Indeed, the top five finishers in the event all had Phillips on their teams. Devind, the #22 ranked player in the RG TPOY race, took the early lead on the strength of Marlon Byrd and a Blue Jays stack but then it was the mbomb44 (#27 in the TPOY race) show as he took the lead and at one time had teams in the top three spots. Unfortunately for mbomb44, his SP of choice was Chris Sale who got roughed up in his outing and that was enough to allow other players to move past him.
One of those was reigning Tournament Player of the Year, McJester, who would end up finishing in 3rd place. Ultimately the seat went to luke8787 (#48 in TPOY race) by the narrowest of margins as he would win by just .25 points over devind. The big blow was a three run home run from Anthony Rizzo with two out in the top of the eighth inning. That was just enough to give him the $48,444 package to the $4 Million WFBC coming up next month!
