DFS Tournament Report: September 15th
DraftKings and FanDuel gambled that DFS players would turn out in massive numbers on the day after the first week of the NFL season concluded and while the numbers were impressive, there was a significant amount of overlay in their big GPPs. DraftKings had their first MLB Millionaire Maker where the winner would collect a million dollars and FanDuel had two $1.5 million GPPs. It was a high-scoring night that saw a dominant performance by Stephen Strasburg lead the way for most teams. Some of the biggest names in DFS would be in contention for the big money but it was others who would steal the show. Read on to find out who those players were as well as a review of the rest of the big winners for the evening.
DraftKings $2.5M Millionaire Maker ($20 entry)
With homers from Bryce Harper and Alex Rodriguez and strong starts from Jacob deGrom and Stephen Strasburg, rcretell would move into the early lead after an hour of play. However, deGrom would falter and thus end his chances for a huge score. Freebagels and a three-team train would take the top three spots the next hour with a lineup that included Strasburg, Harper, Justin Smoak, and Manny Machado.
As the evening progressed it became clear what would be needed to take down the seven-figure payday and that was an Oakland stack as the Athletics put up 17 runs in their game. Well an A’s stack with Strasburg…
There were plenty that had that combination and KingHarley and two teams from pilotg fought it out over the next several hours. It would, however, be the last games of the night that would make the difference as a strong outing from Buster Posey moved soobv and cylusballin into the top two spots with just a few innings of play remaining. Both players had Posey but cylusballin also had Angel Pagan who would get a hit and score a run in the bottom of the ninth inning. That would be the difference between $100,000 and a million dollars as that moved cylusballin into the lead and he would hold on for the win.
Final Results:
1. cylusballin 250.35, $1,000,000
2. soobv 247.1, $100,000
3. threedogsprinting 239.35, $50,000
4. cylusballin 237.55, $30,000
5. pilotg 233.5, $20,000

DraftKings $500K Mega Gold Glove ($1,060 entry)
Meanwhile, in the upper stratosphere at DraftKings, the biggest and brightest in DFS took part in the $1,060 buy-in Mega gold Glove. Draftcheat (#9 in RG’s TPOY race) would take the early lead with a Strasburg/Harper/ARod led team. Then came the A’s game and that would move bgh9999 into the lead as he had an A’s stack and Strasburg.
It would be a lead that he would not lose despite a late surge from TheClone who is currently the #1 ranked player in RG’s TPOY race.
Final Results:
1. bh9999 196.75, $100,000
2. TheClone 189.2, $50,000
3. tinderella 185.55, $30,000
4. jgro 181.45, $20,000
5. rayofhope 178.15, $15,000

FanDuel $1.5M Super Monster ($300 Entry)
Over on FanDuel, more big names would battle it out in a $1.5 million Super Monster. As was the case in most tournaments, teams with Strasburg and Harper took the early lead and those two were on the early leader tinmar35’s team. And as was the case in most tournaments, that lead would evaporate when the Oakland A’s started their onslaught. That led to the likes of ganondorf, ryazan2000, lovesbases, and maxdalury all making appearances in the top five.
It would, however, come down to the very end between as twogun (#17 in TPOY race) and rayofhope would duke it out for top honors with rayofhope taking the late lead thanks to Posey’s excellent game. Coming out of nowhere though was oneistheloneliestnumber who jumped past everyone after A.J. Pollock hit a three run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning in one of the last games of the night. He would hold on for the win and the quarter-million dollars in prize money.
Final Results:
1. oneistheloneliestnumber 87.25, $250,000
2. rayofhope 83, $150,000
3. twogun 81.25, $100,000
4. nahunta 80.5, $75,000
5. loubk 79.75, $50,000

FanDuel $1.5M Super Grand Slam ($25 Entry)
For only $25, FanDuel customers had a great shot at a huge return on their money in the $1.5 million Super Grand Slam. The previously mentioned tinmar35 would take the lead in this one as well with his Strasburg/Harper/ARod lead team but as was the case in every other big tournament it would be the Strasburg+A’s stacks that would dominate.
Threejos and tm21 held the top two spots with just a little play left in the late games. Two users, mooseballz and rothemark, were sitting just out of the top five with Todd Frazier remaining. The Reds third baseman hit a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning to move them from the executive suite to the penthouse suite. What was even better for rothemark is that he had a train of five team going. This would lead to an impressive payday of over $350,000 as the result of his six-way tie for first.
Final Results:
1. mooseballz 89.5, $74,166.67
1 (5 times). rothemark 89.5, $370,833.35
