Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction: Is Charlie Wright?
Is Charlie Wright? explores one NFL bet each week based on a major decision point. Ideally, this article will lay out a case for the bet in a thorough manner, giving the reader the opportunity to either agree with the perspective and tail the bet or disagree with the breakdown and fade the pick.
Was Charlie Wright?
Yes, but it came at a price. Anthony Richardson was absolutely rolling through two drives, going 5-for-6 through the air and scoring a pair of rushing touchdowns. And then he was pulled with a concussion early in the second quarter. Ugh.
The Colts cruised to a victory, but would’ve loved to see the final stat line for Richardson after that start. He’s going to have some nuclear games this year.
Split the prop picks. A couple of late drives from Russell Wilson, capped off by a Hail Mary, got him over his passing prop. James Cook cleared his rushing prop easily.
How about the public?

Nice job. And one more vote than last week!
Records after Week 2
- Charlie: 2-0
- Prop Picks: 2-2
- The Public: 1-1
Week 3 Pick: Eagles -4.5 (-110 on Fanatics)
Reason: Tampa Bay’s offense had THE best possible matchups through two weeks and will crash back to earth here.
There are two explanations for Tampa Bay’s 2-0 start. Either Baker Mayfield is now a top 10 quarterback or the Bucs had basically the best matchups possible. I’m counting on the latter.
Mayfield is 5th in passer rating and 7th in EPA per play. He has a perfect 3:0 TD:INT ratio. Mayfield has been legitimately excellent, and he’s led a team with minimal expectations (6.5 preseason win total) to a perfect start.
And it’s not just Mayfield. Mike Evans, at 30 years old, has 12 catches for 237 yards and two TDs. Rachaad White, who averaged 3.7 yards per carry and scored one rushing TD in 2022, racked up 100+ total yards and a score in Week 2. This offense is rolling.
We’re going to be stacking against Chicago and Minnesota all season. They were torched in their other games as well (the Packers put up 38 on the Bears, the Eagles scored 34 on the Vikings). Philadelphia’s defense is not in that class. They’re dealing with some injuries, but they’re miles ahead of the Bears and Vikings in terms of talent and depth.
This line has dropped from -6.5 to -4.5, and I’ll gladly snap up that value.
PICK: Eagles -4.5 (-110 on Fanatics Sportsbook)
NFL Player Props for Week 3
Alexander Mattison 50+ Rushing Yards (-128 on FanDuel)
FanDuel doesn’t have a standard line posted, but they have the alternate lines. The 50+ line is 5-8 yards lower than other books right now, without much more juice. The Cam Akers trade has crushed the perception of Mattison. Can we actually expect him to make an impact this week, though? I doubt it. It’s a good matchup for a guy that should continue to get most of the work.
Garrett Wilson Under 48.5 Receiving Yards (-115 on DraftKings)
Welp, this is a depressing one. He saved his day last week by taking a short pass to the house, and that could certainly happen again, but I’ll be fading him as long as Zach Wilson is under center. Wilson caught just two of eight targets last week and gets another difficult matchup in New England.
