Finding Paydirt: Week 5 Results

Article Image

In Week 5, we cleaned the slate and started a new contest with the carrot being a soft, beautiful RotoGrinders T-shirt. BroLantis held off the competition in Weeks 1-4 — but we saw a new contestant jump to the top in Week 5. Aaron Jones went absolutely wild and carried a few contestants to the top of the new leaderboard. So, today we provide a new leaderboard and then leave with a few of my takeaways from Week 5.

The four touchdowns from Aaron Jones went a long way for our new overall leader bdub02. Bdub02 gathered six touchdowns in Week 5 to take the early lead for the month and jump atop the overall leaderboard. Cooper2121 and 1010mg both scored four touchdowns and rest just behind bdub02 for our second T-shirt.

After watching a player score four touchdowns, I suppose that our standings can shift drastically after any week. So, if you are like your humble narrator and only found one touchdown in Week 5, keep up the good fight and hope to pop a ton of touchdowns in the next couple of weeks.

Now, for some takeaways…

Week 5 Takeaways

Week 5 was a scoring bonanza and points to the need to look for upside in “cash” lineups. Listening to some reactionary content, it seems like many love to call into question “cash plays” because of median projections. With the field improving, when should we start considering some upside with our cash plays? Since NFL is the only sport where I dabble with 50/50’s and H2H, I am curious to hear some opinions on this thought. At his price, Will Fuller was a cash-must but can’t possibly ever be considered “safe.”

How does Jamaal Williams still have a considerable role in the Packers’ offense? I mean, I know things really got away from the Cowboys, but still… Jones is so dynamic. Who cares if Williams is good at blocking? How often does he actually throw a meaningful block? Pass protection? Geez…

Booger McFarland might be the worst broadcaster in sports entertainment. Booger’s insight lacks any depth — frequently citing how vital it is that a losing team score to better their chances to win. “Down 21 points, the Browns really need a touchdown here if they want to get back in this game.” Booger also intimated that “Kyle Juszcyzk is a main piece of the 49ers offense and losing him will greatly impact the team.” Will it, though? I wouldn’t advocate for someone to lose their job but doesn’t ESPN pay him a lot of money to do this?

The Cowboys are overrated…? Or perhaps, they are going to be rated appropriately. Led by a proven jabroni as the coach and backed by a billionaire trapped in the 1990s, the Cowboys make decisions that exhibit a lack of feel for the current landscape around the league. Running backs don’t warrant big money? Let’s sign our back to a ridiculously large contract. What about the quarterback? Will Dak receive an exorbitant contract, also? Luckily, the Cowboys play the Jets this week and will likely devastate the hapless New York team.

The Giants are going to get wrecked on Thursday night. Currently a 16.5-point favorite, the Patriots are going to decimate the injury-riddled Giants.

Thanks for reading. Come back each Friday and Tuesday to play along with the community and react to my weekly takeaways.
