This series is a best of 7 and we will cover each game as the series moves on.
BirdWings vs. vegetable_lasagna
Game 1: vegetable_lasagna 79 – BirdWings 73
Thoughts on Game 1:
This was a great way to start off the Championship. Both BirdWings and vegetable_lasagna put together very solid lineups in Game 1 that would have easily cashed in Double-Ups that night. It’s always nice to see players bring their A-game in these big events.
Both players decided to spend up on pitching in Game 1 as both spent more than half of their salary cap on pitching. They both paid up for Stephen Strasburg (13 FP’s), but took different routes with their other two starters. BirdWings went with Charlie Morton (13 FP’s) and Ryan Vogelsong (2 FP’s) while vegetable_lasagna took a little more risk with Edwin Jackson (7 FP’s) and R.A. Dickey (4 FP’s). It seems like the safer route of Morton and Vogelsong paid off as BirdWings had a 4 point advantage from his starting pitchers.
Now let’s break down the hitters. You often find that great minds think alike, especially in the game of daily fantasy sports. BirdWings and vegetable_lasagna had the same thought process and that was to stack the game in Coors Field. They both rostered the following players: Jason Castro, Jason Kipnis, Chris Johnson, Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, Corey Dickerson, and Matt Kemp. With a roster of only 9 batters, they only had 2 differences.
As mentioned above, BirdWings had a 4 point lead in the pitching department. With 7 of the same batters, that meant that vegetable_lasagna only had 2 batters to make up the difference. And what a difference those batters ended up being. Vegetable_lasagna got a combined 13 FP’s from Joe Mauer and Jose Reyes while BirdWings could only muster up a combined 2 FP’s from Justin Morneau and Didi Gregorious. In the end, Jose Reyes was the difference as vegetable_lasagna took Game 1 79-73.
Analysis of Game 2 will be up soon!
