Million Dollar Musings: Monday, September 24th
Is your lineup Premium Approved? Monday, September 24th
Well, this is it. We’re down to the final week of the MLB regular season and the last few days of Musings until next year. I’ll keep on doing the usual thing here, but the already wonky ways September baseball will only get worse as we enter the final days. We’ve already seen unusual starting lineups, short outings for pitchers, players being pinch hit for early and often and loads of innings from bullpens.
When it comes to starting pitchers, unless the teams give us some information ahead of time, we’re going to be guessing on which pitchers will be on pitch counts, either to rest for the playoffs, or simply to end their seasons without any extra unnecessary innings. I’ll be giving you my opinions on these situations, but they are just that, my opinions.
We start out the week with quite a few big name pitchers up top, in varying degrees of health and meaningful to meaningless games. We’re going to have Coors Field to deal with all week, but there are a couple other good looking spots for bats up top if you want to look elsewhere.
MONDAY NIGHT PITCHING
FOUR ACES
Corey Kluber at White Sox
Stephen Strasburg vs Marlins
Clayton Kershaw at Diamondbacks
James Paxton vs A’s
NOTE – I originally wrote this section when Luis Severino was expected to pitch as well. With him out of the mix, it’s a further bump to Kluber and Strasburg. I still have some references to Severino in this section, but it’s now a bullpen game for the Yankees.
