Happy Tuesday! Yesterday was one of those MLB slates where everything went a little haywire. As surprising as some of those results were, it’s not entirely unexpected that Monday would’ve been the least predictable slate so far this season. As we discussed in the pitcher notes yesterday, it was a huge bucket of unknown pitchers with small sample sizes of data to go on. That doesn’t mean that we won’t see some strange things happen again tonight, but we do have a much more established group of pitchers on the mound. But keep in mind, it’s still the first week of the season, and in some cases it can be even tougher to gauge a players value after just one start than it was before the season. When we see pitchers like Chris Sale and Blake Snell open with duds, or Marcus Stroman and Brad Keller looking like aces in their first start, we need more than one appearance to know if there’s anything real to a change in approach or a change in velocity. I will discuss the opening starts, but will still be relying mostly on the 2018 numbers until we get deeper into the season.
