MLB $300K Tuesday Slugfest Review: Tuesday, August 16th

The Grinder review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for large slate and massive prize pool GPPs.

Today we looked at the $300K Tuesday Slugfest [$50K to 1st!] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $20.

Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game

As shown below, dahladino had quite a spread of ownership across several teams and was not heavily invested in any single stack. With such spread ownerships, it’s quite common to mimic the GPP cash rate (20.8% in this instance). However, due to ownership in above average team stacks and pitchers, he managed a cash rate of 28.7% which added nicely to his bottom line of top place finishes. His 8th place finish featured several key pieces from two separate 15 point team outings (LAD & TB) and could have taken him further if not for Verlander’s sub-par performance.

On the other hand, ganondorf followed the field and cashed at an average 20.7%; mainly due to a string of poor pitching games. However, diversifying between a number of pitchers allowed him to bring along Blake Snell and Kenta Maeda to a team stack of LAD/TB to take down 6th place. He also took down a 16th place finish with a similar stack where he played a few single players (Gary Sanchez, Andrew Benintendi, and Daniel Murphy) in lieu of a 2nd team stack (LAD; 5-1-1-1 stack versus 5-3).

Papagates ventured a different route, even maxing 150 entries, but still found success despite low ownership totals of LAD/TB. He heavily favored the Orioles and Blue Jays, who each had successful wins (Boston albeit with slightly less runs than projected). A high ownership of Russell Martin (30 DK points), Tulowitzki (27 DK points), and Edwin Encarnacion (21 DK points) helped lead him to a 54.7% cash rate. With such a strong showing by his core of players, a very small ownership in TB still allowed him to place deep in 24th place.

Single-Entry Winner of the Game

Ntobs77 placed in 9th by touching on TB/LAD briefly with backup from Gary Sanchez and Christian Yelich. Sanchez had been on fire since being brought on as the Yankees everyday catcher, while Yelich had just been coming off a cold streak.
