MLB $800K Sweet Spot Review: Friday, April 14th
The Grinder review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for large slate DraftKings GPPs.
This week, we looked at the $800K Sweet Spot [$100K to 1st!] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $33 and maximum entry limit of 150 lineups per person.
Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game
The only things I_Slewfoot_u seemed to trust on this slate was the best pitcher in the league, Clayton Kershaw, and the Milwaukee Brewers (and to a lesser extent the San Diego Padres). From there, he didn’t necessarily prioritize teams based on pure runs projected, as he stacked the Rangers and Padres, while mostly fading the Boston Red Sox, Reds, and Indians. As slewfoot once again spread his ownerships quite thin, he didn’t have a lot of staying power at the top of the standings sporting just a cash rate of 32% and three lineups in the top-100, but he took down the 1st and 4th place finishes for a whopping $130k over two lineups.
Kcannon, on the other hand, focused primarily on the teams who were projected to score the most runs. His pitching staff relied on the fan favorite Kershaw, but also saw a heavy dose of a cheaper strikeout-heavy Trevor Bauer. Kcannon focused on a fewer number of teams and put more ownership in almost all teams projected for over four runs. His cash rate sat around a healthy 42%. However, without much ownership in a few of the teams who overproduced on the day (DET, TB, LAD, SF), his finishes within the top-100 were scarce (7th, 70th) but greatly profitable.
Shawnzhan was a bit different over his 150 lineups as he was more concentrated over a handful of teams (peaking and consistent around 25% per player): ATL, LAD, OAK, SD, STL, TB, and TEX. All the match ups were between middle of the road and positive pitching match ups regardless of park factors (resulting in a varied number of projected runs scored between those teams). Shawnzhan finished with a respectable 32% cash rate while putting three lineups in the top-50 (5th, 7th, 50th).
Single-Entry Winner of the Game
Sdotbrown24 saw Kendall Graveman put up 22+ DK points over his last two starts and thought he was a lock at just $6400 against a middle of the road Astros team on the road (so far in the year). However, Kendall put up just 4.5 points while lasting just five innings. Instead, sdot relied on the popular Clayton Kershaw and his flurry of two-man stacks to bring up the slack. Every single batter on his lineup, besides Corey Seager (2R, 2H, 2BB), put up at least 1 HR a piece, maxing out at 2R, 2H, 1 Double, 1HR, 1 RBI, and 1 BB (Chris Davis for 23 DK points).
Single-Entry vs. I_Slewfoot_u/Kcannon/Shawnzhan
Out of 24,460 entries in play, 21.0% of those entries were entered courtesy of players using a single bullet. The table below compares the exposures of those single entries to the above multi-entry grinders and 70 other top professionals picked off of RotoGrinders’ leaderboard:
