Pitcher Grind Down
- Hiroki Kuroda – Kuroda has three things going against him tonight. First, he hasn’t been pitching well lately. Second, he faces the Red Sox who have had good success off of him. Third, he is pitching in Fenway. Everything is pointing to stay away from Kuroda tonight. I’d rather have a pitcher against any other offense. Starter Rating = 4
- John Lackey – Lackey has really been impressive at home this season with a 2.38 ERA but he has had his share of struggles against the Yankees. Usually when the Yankees and Red Sox meet, you throw out both pitchers and take the batters because they are usually high scoring games. That’s the plan tonight as well. Starter Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
NYY – The Yankees lineup is much more formidable now that they have A-Rod and Granderson back. I think the players to target here are the lefties of the Yankees: Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson. I guess we can’t rule out Alfosno Soriano either with the way he is playing.
BOS – David Ortiz has had good success against Kuroda in the past. He is 9/15 with 4 XBH’s. I think all of the Red Sox are in play though. Kuroda hasn’t pitched well and the Red Sox are a great offense at home.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Brad Hand – Hand could make for an interesting sleeper pick tonight. I’m not sure how deep into the game he will pitch, but he has been pretty good in the minors and faces the Mets in a perfect situation. The Mets struggle against lefties and the Mets struggle at home. Don’t pay more than minimum salary for him, but he does have nice sleeper potential. Starter Rating = 5
- Jonathon Niese – Niese is a pretty decent sized favorite in a game that has a very low total. Those are usually the type of pitchers that you should be looking for. Niese has pitched well at home and has pitched well against the Marlins this year. Really like Niese tonight for his price. Starter Rating = 8
Batter Grind Down
MIA – When the Marlins face a lefty only one name comes to mind and that’s Giancarlo Stanton. He hits for great power against lefties but this is an awfully big ballpark. Just avoid the Marlins bats.
NYM – Two schools of thought here. Young pitcher making a spot start could mean to put a few Mets in your lineup. Or you can go the route of the pitcher. If you decide to take any Mets, Eric Young and Josh Satin both hit lefties well.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Ian Kennedy – Kennedy has really pitched well since coming over from the D-Backs. He’s only allowed one earned run or less in three of his last 4 starts. His problem is that he has to face a Braves team in their ballpark. Kennedy gives up a high OPS to lefties and the Braves have some good ones in their lineup. Starter Rating = 4
- David Hale – From what I’ve read about Hale, he doesn’t have dominant stuff and has really hasn’t been great in the minors. He is a favorite, but I think it’s a nice spot to sneak some Padres into your lineup. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
SD – This could be a good spot for the Padres, they are facing a guy that has never pitched in the majors before. Hale is a right hand pitcher and leadoff man Will Venable is very good against right hand pitching. I also like Jedd Gyorko, he is cheap all around and is swinging a hot bat.
ATL – Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann are the two Braves bats to think about tonight. Kennedy struggles against lefties and both of these guys hit right hand pitching for good power.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Dan Straily – Straily is a pitcher that I like to take against average offenses. He has a pretty good K rate and has a solid offense behind him. I don’t however like to take him against the Rangers in Arlington. Starter Rating = 3
- Derek Holland – Holland is usually always in play regardless of who he is facing or where he is pitching, but I’ve seen what these A’s have done to other aces around the league. They are just a scrappy bunch that finds ways to score runs. I think Holland has some decent value on sites with sharp pricing because he is very cheap, but don’t spend a lot to get him. Starter Rating = 6
Batter Grind Down
OAK – Holland has good BvP numbers against most of this A’s team, but Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie, Yoenis Cespedes, and Josh Donaldson all hit lefties well and have all been playing well of late.
TEX – A.J. Pierzynski and Alex Rios both have had success against Straily, but the sample size is small. I always like Adrian Beltre at home, he is batting .328 at home with 13 HR’s.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Chris Archer – This Twins team is really frustrating. I said yesterday that I was going to avoid taking A.J. Griffin because the Twins had been scoring a lot of runs. Then they come out and let Griffin throw a gem against them. I’m not falling for that again. Archer has a 3.19 ERA, a strong offense behind him, and a decent K rate. Oh, and he gets to face the Twins lineup that is full of no namers. Love Griffin tonight. Starter Rating = 8
- Kevin Correia – Correia doesn’t have much fantasy upside. He has a low K rate, pretty high ERA, and a bad offense that doesn’t give him a ton of run support. Oh, and he faces a Rays team that is in a playoff race. Starter Rating = 2
Batter Grind Down
TB – Kelly Johnson is rarely ever on my radar, but he has great BvP numbers against Correia. He is 9/25 with 5 HR’s off of him so if you believe in BvP, maybe Johnson can get you a cheap HR. Evan Longoria is the best play though, he is doing all he can to get him team in the playoffs.
MIN – If I’m really high on Archer tonight, that means I am low on the Twins. Avoid.
