Pitcher Grind Down
- Jason Vargas – Today is a tough call with Vargas. He has been pitching well with 3 quality starts in his last 4, but the Astros offense has been playing well too. Vargas didn’t pitch great against them earlier in the season either. I’m a bit mixed here, but you have to love the upside of any pitcher facing the Astros. I think Vargas is a better GPP play than a H2H play. Starter Rating = 6
- Dallas Keuchel – Keuchel is not a pitcher that I trust, who is really going to pick him? The Angels offense has been hot over the last couple weeks and Keuchel just seems like he will get lit up. Starter Rating = 2
Batter Grind Down
LAA – The Angels have been swinging hot bats, Mike Trout, Mark Trumbo, and even Josh Hamilton have had some good games lately. I love the matchup against the lefty Keuchel for all of the right hand bats.
HOU – The Astros have been pretty good on offense. Their lineup doesn’t look great on paper, but they really haven’t been a bad offense over the last month or so. If you like cheap value plays, this Astros lineup is full of them.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Mat Latos – Latos has been solid this season with a 3.02 ERA while average just over 8 K’s per 9 innings. The Brewers have been a team that people like to take pitchers against, but their offense has been pretty good lately. I think Latos gives his team a chance to win, but gives up a couple runs in the process. Starter Rating = 6
- Kyle Lohse – Lohse won’t be a popular play tonight against the Reds, but I think he could be a nice GPP play. In 3 starts against the Reds this season, he has a 2.29 ERA. He’s also pitched really well at home. Starter Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
CIN – When the Reds face a right hand pitcher, you know the drill. Joey Votto, Shin-Soo Choo, and Jay Bruce all hit right hand pitching well. Miller park is pretty friendly to hitters too.
MIL – Carlos Gomez is an under the radar play tonight. Against Latos, he is 6/12 with 4 XBH’s including 2 HR’s. The rest of the team doesn’t do much for me.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Hisashi Iwakuma – Iwakuma gets a bad matchup against the tough Cardinals offense. He also has Wainwright as the opposing pitcher. Starter Rating = 4
- Adam Wainwright – Wainwright’s last 5 starts have been a roller coaster ride. He’s given up 0,6,9,1,1 earned runs in those starts. I think he pitches well tonight against the Mariners. He’s a big favorite and has been dominant at home with a 2.68 ERA.
Batter Grind Down
SEA – My philosophy is simple, take good hitters against bad pitchers, not the other way around.
STL – The Cardinals have never faced Iwakuma before, but I think they will score a few runs. Matt Holliday has been playing well and Matt Carpenter will look to add to his .373 batting average at home.

COL vs R | COL BvP | ARI vs R | ARI BvP | ||||||
Pitcher Grind Down
- Tyler Chatwood – Chatwood is one of those pitchers that has good numbers but no one ever seems to take him. I relate him to Joe Flacco in the NFL. Chatwood is dirt cheap and doesn’t have a terrible matchup, but I just can’t bring myself to take him with all of the other options. Starter Rating = 4
- Brandon McCarthy – McCarthy has had 3 nice starts in a row and looks like he is finally getting it together. He was a very good pitcher over the last two years and I like what I’ve seen out of him lately. I think he will pitch well again tonight. Starter Rating = 6
Batter Grind Down
COL – I tend to stay away from the Rockies bats when they are on the road, but if you aren’t sold on McCarthy, you could take either Troy Tulowitzki or Michael Cuddyer. Both have decent chances of going deep in this park.
ARI – Paul Goldschmidt is good, plain and simple. He has great power and is always in play at home. I also like the Martin Prado has been playing over the last month. Both decent options against Chatwood.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Madison Bumgarner – Now this one should be a fun one to watch. Two of the best pitchers in baseball take the mound tonight. Bumgarner has really pitched well against the Dodgers this year with a 1.64 ERA and 20 K’s over 22 innings pitched. I think he makes a great play, but you have to give the slight edge to Kershaw. Starter Rating = 8
- Clayton Kershaw – Of the two pitchers tonight, Kershaw has the better matchup. This Giants team is not very good against lefties and Kershaw’s numbers against SF top Bum’s numbers against LAD. In 4 starts against the Giants, he has an insane 1.13 ERA. One run by either team could end up being the difference in this game. Starter Rating = 10
Batter Grind Down
SF/LAD – Have you seen who is pitching in this game?
