Covering the Bases: Saturday, September 16
STLCardinals84, one of the best tournament players in the game, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Saturday, Grinders! We have what looks like a fun ten-game slate on tap to start the weekend. That has been cut to nine on FanDuel with the exclusion of Game 2 of the SF / COL doubleheader over there. There is a lot of good pitching to choose from tonight, but there is some intriguing offense to consider too. I am expecting a higher-scoring slate at first glance.
Let’s analyze the ten games that we have tonight in an attempt to uncover some strong MLB DFS picks!
Saturday Night Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Four Top Tier Arms
Corbin Burnes vs. Nationals
Tyler Glasnow vs. Orioles
Pablo Lopez vs. White Sox
Clayton Kershaw vs. Mariners
We have four bona fide aces going this evening, and you know that at least one of these pitchers is going to toss a gem tonight. Picking the right one will be key. Let’s take a peek at the 2023 data:
Burnes – 3.47 ERA, 3.85 xFIP, 25% K, 8% BB
Glasnow – 3.15 ERA, 2.76 xFIP, 34% K, 7% BB
Lopez – 3.43 ERA, 3.40 xFIP, 29% K, 6% BB
Kershaw – 2.61 ERA, 3.57 xFIP, 26% K, 7% BB
The odd man out from this group is going to be Clayton Kershaw. A full-strength Kershaw is fine but still wouldn’t stand out among this group. Sure, he has the best ERA of the bunch, but the advanced metrics suggest some regression, and he has battled command issues this year more than he ever has in the past. In addition, he has made just one start over the past three weeks as a result of a shoulder injury. The Dodgers will almost assuredly be careful with his pitch count tonight, and we need upside on this slate. Kershaw doesn’t come at a massive discount, and there’s just no reason to risk it.
