Covering the Bases: Sunday, April 30

STLCardinals84, one of the best tournament players in the game, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Sunday, everyone! We have what promises to be a wild day of DFS on tap. Both FanDuel and DraftKings are offering us a nine game main slate today, but mother nature is likely going to put a wrench into that. Here’s a quick look at some of the early weather designations that we have on this slate per Kevin Roth’s weather page
CLE @ BOS – ORANGE/RED
PIT @ WAS – ORANGE
TBR @ CHW – ORANGE/RED
ATL @ NYM – RED/ORANGE
Well, that makes things fun. 44% of the slate has some combination of orange or orange/red for weather designations today. I am not really sure how to handle this. I am going to write up the slate as if all the games play, rather than try to play weatherman myself. Just make sure to keep a close eye on things as the morning progresses.

The Top Options
(NOTE – All statistical references for pitchers now show 2023 season data).
Spencer Strider vs. Mets (Weather?)
Drew Rasmussen vs. White Sox (Weather?)
Sonny Gray vs. Royals
Nestor Cortes vs. Rangers
The weather has really put a damper on some of these weekend series, and that continues today.
If we’re strictly going on talent and upside, we have to consider Spencer Strider as the SP1 on this slate. He came within five outs of a no-hitter in his last start, and he made a great pitch on the one that was golfed into the outfield for Miami’s first hit of that game. Strider owns a 1.80 ERA and 2.59 xFIP so far on the season with a mammoth 43% strikeout rate. The walks are still a mild issue at times, but he has clearly grown into a top five starter in baseball. He’ll benefit from pitching in ugly hitting conditions today, which offsets the issue of facing the Mets to some degree. We’ll need to monitor the weather forecast here, but he’s the SP1 on the slate if the game is a full go. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.
