MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Friday, July 5
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
CheeseIsGood: Bobby Witt
boggslite: Bobby Witt
ebeimfohr: Bobby Witt
Alex Sonty: Bobby Witt
Who is your favorite hitter (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
CheeseIsGood: Jesus Sanchez – Why play Bobby Witt or Shohei Ohtani when you can play Jesus Sanchez!? It’s still a crazy small sample size, but Drew Thorpe does not look like a major league pitcher against lefties. The kid has a 13.3% K rate with 20% walks and a bunch of hard-hit fly balls when he does throw a strike. Along with Jazz Chisholm, Sanchez is up at a healthy 13.3% barrel rate against RHP this season, and he’s also hot, if that’s your thing. Seven hits and 2 HRs in the last 3 games may be fluky, but the guy has talent at a low salary against what looks so far like a bad pitcher.
boggslite: Bobby Witt – His price is through the roof, but I expect him to be worth every penny tonight facing a mediocre lefty in Kyle Freeland who gives up too much hard contact and has managed to strikeout just 12% of the right-handed batters he has faced dating back to last season. He will likely be the highest-owned player, but with plenty of other shortstops to play tonight, I’ll let my opponents fade Witt in this dream matchup.
ebeimfohr: Ketel Marte – Randy Vasquez is a target for me with left-handed bats every time he steps on the mound. He has been absolutely shelled by lefties in 2024, and he’s frankly not an MLB-caliber pitcher. He has allowed a .505 wOBA and .225 ISO to lefties, and Marte has been one of the best offensive players in baseball this year. The extra perk of Ketel is that he’s a switch hitter who crushes lefties, so even when the Padres bring in their lefty relievers to match the Diamondbacks lefties, he will have a huge advantage throughout the game.
Alex Sonty: Shohei Ohtani – Aaron Civale has been unlucky against righties this season, but he’s been getting hit hard, often, well, and in the air by lefties. Civale has allowed a 9.1% barrel rate on a 58.2% hard-hit rate and 32.7% fly-ball rate to lefties, while Ohtani has a 21.7% barrel rate on a 68.9% hard-hit rate and 31.1% fly-ball rate against RHP. Civale isn’t a strikeout threat, and that’s how you get to Ohtani. Ohtani’s price tag with the higher-priced pitching combos should keep him under-owned.
