What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
CheeseIsGood: I like this slate more for smaller-field and single-entry tournaments. I end up with a clear primary pool for both pitching and hitting, and beyond that, it’s a very spread-out tangle where I feel like I’d just be throwing darts. I do think that Baltimore and Atlanta will be popular, but it’s a big enough slate that I don’t think anything reaches a concerning level of ownership. I will side with Garrett Crochet ahead of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but I’m also perfectly content with Bryce Elder and Michael Wacha so that I can spend more salary on my bats, allowing me to get a couple spend-ups around my stacks.
stevietpfl: I will focus on single-entry contests. I struggle to get different at pitcher tonight, and when that happens, I tend to focus more on smaller-field contests. I’m going to build around Garrett Crochet and Bryce Elder as much as possible. As far as the bats, I want to be overweight on Baltimore and Arizona. I’ll look to some bats projecting for lower ownership in those stacks to make my stacks a little different.
Dean78904: I mostly focus on single-entry and smaller-field contests. I expect to have one of Garrett Crochet or Yoshinobu Yamamoto in every lineup, and I’ll at least see what lineups with double-barrel aces look like when we start getting lineups announced. If I can’t quite get there, I’m good with a chalky Bryce Elder as my SP2. It is a 12-game slate with 24 teams to choose from, and two of the most disappointing teams this season will likely be the most popular (Braves and Orioles). I wish I could say otherwise, but I’m in on both teams. As I typically do, if I’m rostering players from some of the more popular teams, I like to make 3-3-2 / 4-2-2 types of stacks in an effort to get a different combination.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
CheeseIsGood: Bryce Elder – The first thing I want to say here is that I think the 12-strikeout outing from Elder last weekend was pure fluke.
