MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Friday, June 21
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in large-field tournaments?
CheeseIsGood: Jose Ramirez
squirrelpatrol: Aaron Judge
boggslite: Royce Lewis
ebeimfohr: Gunnar Henderson
Alex Sonty: Gunnar Henderson
Who is your top overall pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
CheeseIsGood: Trevor Rogers – I feel terrible about this one, and listing a pitcher of this caliber instead of all the aces is giving me the heebie jeebies. It’s just a very strange slate, where outside of a chalky George Kirby, all the aces are priced up in tough matchups. And then on the cheap end, if there’s chalk, it’s going to be a child pitching in Coors Field who likely has control issues. That leaves throwing a nonsensical cheap dart at a guy with a 17.4% K rate and 9.8% walks this season. This is just all about the salary and the matchup. He’s pitching in a great pitcher-friendly park against a high-strikeout opponent, and he allows you to play basically any bats you want. As bad as the numbers are, he’s still been surviving in real life, and the Mariners are the type of team that can allow that to continue.
squirrelpatrol: Nathan Eovaldi – Eovaldi has a 26% K% this season and at least 8 Ks in 4 of his 11 starts. Kansas City isn’t a matchup we always want to pick on, but they rank 24th in wOBA over the past 2 weeks, and Texas is a -150 favorite in a game that has a low 7.5 total. Eovaldi comes at a price and pOWN% discount to the top options on the board but carries just as much upside.
boggslite: George Kirby – On a night where little stands out at pitcher, Kirby instantly becomes my top overall option facing a weak Marlins lineup that doesn’t draw walks and lacks power, which plays into Kirby’s strengths as an efficient pitcher. He’s capable of putting together big performances, and this matchup makes him a low-risk, high-reward arm to target in all formats.
ebeimfohr: DJ Herz – Despite an epic 13-strikeout performance in his 3rd start, Herz remains extremely cheap on both sites. Yes, he’s in Coors Field, but the Rockies are bottom 8 in wRC+ against LHP on the season, with a 23% K rate. Herz has posted monster strikeout numbers all across the minors, and if he can continue to harness his command, he’s going to put up some big fantasy numbers.
Alex Sonty: DJ Herz – Herz is gonna gain steam as the day progresses, but I don’t care because he’s so cheap, and the slate is pretty large. He doesn’t throw many strikes, but the Rockies have the 2nd-highest swing rate at pitches outside of the zone (35.8%), so Herz should be more than just fine. Also, he leans on his fastball/changeup combination far more than his slider anyway, so his Coors downgrade is relatively limited.
