MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Saturday, August 17

How do you plan to beat the field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

stlcardinals84: I am going to use a narrow pitching pool tonight, with Chris Sale, Hunter Brown, and Dylan Cease being my top three arms by a fairly wide margin. I won’t get cute with my pitchers. I am going to take a stand on liking the Astros as my top stack. They are more affordable than the Padres or Dodgers by a considerable amount, and I love the matchup against Chris Flexen and the horrid White Sox bullpen.

Krayton: I will be taking an overweight stance on Hunter Brown tonight, as he gets the best matchup and has pitched very well this year. I will also being playing David Festa on FD and Hayden Birdsong on DK, as the value really allows you to get the high end bats. As much as I will be playing Hunter Brown, I do like playing Festa on FD and loading up on SDP, LAD, and BAL.

tcsmith031: This is a very strong pitching slate with options in several price tiers. I don’t think you can go wrong with pairing either Hunter Brown or Chris Sale with a cheap Dylan Cease on DraftKings, but I’ll also be keeping the likes of Freddy Peralta, Tanner Bibee, Hayden Birdsong, and Cade Povich in the player pool for GPPs. Offense is murkier once you get past the Padres in Coors, so I’ll cast a wide net on the hitting side of things too.

TJ Zwarych: Dylan Cease, Hunter Brown, and Chris Sale are all picking up significant projected ownership, but I think Brown is the only one I’ll be overweight on with Sale being expensive and Cease in Coors Field. I’ll be playing much more of the cheap pitchers than the rest of the field, prioritizing Hayden Birdsong and David Festa as my highest owned options outside of Brown.

Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Robert Brown (Epignosis)

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
