MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, August 8th

Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?

SquirrelPatrol: Trea Turner
headChopper: Aaron Judge
Dean78904: Trea Turner
ebeimfohr: Trea Turner

Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

SquirrelPatrol: Kyle Gibson – Gibson isn’t a pitcher who increases the excitement level on most slates, but his 21.5% K% isn’t that much lower than Nestor Cortes (22.7%), who has the highest K% on the slate. Gibson is facing a Rays offense that ranks 29th in SLG% and 27th in wOBA vs. RHP this season, and he should come at a price and pOWN% discount from the more popular pitchers on the slate.

headChopper: Bryan Woo – I am not a huge fan of this slate’s pitching. I could poke holes in each of their cases as top pitchers. Woo stands out to me simply due to the matchup. Detroit typically throws out a lineup against right-handers that will have five hitters considered high-strikeout guys. Matt Vierling has been their biggest power threat against righties this year, and they have him batting leadoff. This means he won’t have much traffic on base during his at-bats. Woo gets the nod here by the process of elimination.

Dean78904: Kyle Gibson – Gibson is my “favorite” pitcher on this slate in the same way taking out the garbage is my “favorite” household chore. I don’t really wanna choose anyone, but I am contractually obligated to do so, so here we are. Gibson has thrown at least 96 pitches in his last 5 games, and a matchup vs. the Rays offers strikeouts. The projected Tampa Bay lineup has whiffed 25.7% vs. RHPs this season, with only one batter having a sub-23.1 % K rate. Tampa can only get so left-handed these days, so ideally, you get at least five right-handed bats as Gibson sees his K rate jump up to 24.5%. That’s all. That’s the best pitch I can muster up for you.

ebeimfohr: Shane Baz – I think Baz has a case for the most talented pitcher on the slate, at least right up there with Woo and Gausman (long-term). He has been a little up and down since his return from injury, but his career strikeout rate is 26%, and his ownership is far lower than the other talented pitchers on this slate. The Cardinals are not a dream matchup, but they’re also not a high-powered offense, so I feel comfortable targeting them with a talented pitcher at low ownership.
