MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Tuesday, August 20

Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?

CheeseIsGood: Shohei Ohtani
SquirrelPatrol: Shohei Ohtani
Stevietpfl: Corey Seager
Dean78904: Shohei Ohtani

Who is your favorite hitter (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

CheeseIsGood: Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor – We have a slate where all the usual suspects should run away with the high-end ownership. With guys like Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt, Yordan Alvarez, Corey Seager, and others at the top of the charts, I expect the Guardians to be completely off the radar against a good pitcher like Luis Gil. But while Gil is a good pitcher, his numbers against lefties are really just about the same as every other pitcher on this entire slate. His moderate strikeout ability is offset by the elite contact of the Cleveland lefties, and his lack of ground ball ability gives a ton of upside to the .225 and .252 ISO’s of Ramirez and Naylor.

SquirrelPatrol: Shohei Ohtani – On a slate with very little differentiation, Ohtani stands out with his remarkable numbers against RHP. This season, Ohtani has a.686 SLG% and .384 ISO vs. RHP, and he ranks second in the league in SBs as well. The Dodgers are getting healthier, adding to Ohtani’s run potential, and it’s easier to get up to his price tag on a slate without much else worth spending up on.

Stevietpfl: Yordan AlvarezNick Pivetta is an above-average strikeout pitcher, but he’s a fly-ball pitcher who gives up home runs. He’s allowed 21 home runs this season in 100.1 innings, and his 1.88 HR/9 is the second-highest in baseball among starting pitchers. Alvarez has a .258 ISO with a 52.3% hard-hit rate and a 13.7% barrel rate against right-handed pitching this season. He’s my top home run play on this slate.

Dean78904: Cal Raleigh – I don’t love what Seattle is rolling out these days, but I just feel like I need to pick on Walker Buehler. The 30-year-old Buehler is looking every bit of it these days, but he has done a decent job of not serving up too many fly balls vs. lefties (19.4%), and good for him, but when it does, it has not ended well. They say you are supposed to attack a ground-ball lean with a fly-ball hitter, and Cal has the 3rd-highest FB% according to Fangraphs. I’m not sure if I’ll fully stack the Mariners as I only make a few lineups, but I’ll go out of my way to get to Raleigh as an a la carte piece.
