MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Tuesday, March 31
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
CheeseIsGood: Ronald Acuna Jr.
headChopper: Ronald Acuna Jr.
stevietpfl: Ronald Acuna Jr.
Dean78904: Ronald Acuna Jr.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
CheeseIsGood: Logan Gilbert – It’s never ideal to face the Yankees, but Gilbert was so incredibly elite in his home starts last season that I can’t get away from him. Beyond the ballpark, while the Yankees are a great offense with loads of upside, they do have 5 batters in the projected lineup who had strikeout rates above 25% against RHP last season. In Seattle last season, Gilbert had an otherworldly 38.8% K rate with just a 5.4% walk rate. On top of that, he’s not even that expensive at $9,500 on DK and $10,100 on FD.
headChopper: Shohei Ohtani – First off, keep an eye on the MLB weather, but assuming this game plays, Ohtani brings more strikeout upside than any other pitcher on the slate. We are splitting hairs here because there are a handful of good options to choose from, but this matchup for him against the Guardians stands out. The matchups for Logan Gilbert, Hunter Brown, Logan Webb, and Max Fried are all tougher than this matchup for Ohtani. He topped 80 pitches in his last Spring Training start, so he should be primed to get through 6+ innings if he has his stuff working.
stevietpfl: Shane McClanahan – Logan Gilbert is likely going to be my highest-owned pitcher. That said, McClanahan is my favorite tournament option. McClanahan hasn’t pitched in the majors in the last 2 seasons because of injury. There is a good chance the Rays limit him early in the season. I think most people will take a wait-and-see approach with him, but I want to be ahead of the game. With Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn out, the Brewers are lacking right-handed power. McClanahan reached 73 pitches in his final Spring Training start. He pitched well in his 4 outings, and in 2023, he was an elite strikeout pitcher. I’ll be overweight on him.
Dean78904: Hunter Brown – Officially, Logan Gilbert is my favorite SP, but Cheese said everything I wanted to say about Gilbert, and I want to avoid redundancy, so here we are. I did not love seeing the 4 walks on Opening Day, but the 9 Ks and 102 pitches are really appealing. Brown is a good strikeout pitcher (28.3% K% last season) who keeps the ball on the ground and in the park, as he severely limits hard contact – 97th percentile hard-hit rate according to Baseball Savant. The Red Sox offense is not a pushover, but they have been quiet to start the season, offer some Ks (projected lineup had a 23% K rate vs. RHP last season), and are most imposing at home. Again, Gilbert is my favorite SP, but Brown is essentially in the same tier for me, and I’ll suspect come in over the field on him.
